I kind of don't get it?

'This book = contemporary feminism' and the book is just women getting physically, emotionally and sexually used from the start to the end? I must be missing something...

Wow. What a book. Cuts right to your core; I had to stifle a sudden sob less than thirty pages in lest alarm my fellow morning commuters. Harrowing and deeply moving, The Natural Way of Things is a story that lingers. It makes you feel uncomfortable and horrified and desperate for the survival of these women. The modern Australian setting makes it all the more awfully tangible. I was particularly gripped by Wood's portrait of the remote Australian landscape, and the persistent role this plays in the girls' fate.

I wanted to love this, but it fell short of being powerful for me. Incredibly thought-provoking and well written, but ultimately I feel I can't recommend because it's just so grim without being moving.

Oof! A slightly jarring writing style for me...and the first few chapters I thought “mmm, an Australian Handmaid’s Tale”. Nup, similar in aspects but very different, and interesting. Surprised about a number of things, but nothing suspenseful (not in a bad way - just The Nature of Things.

Now there's a book you don't read every day - probably the best way I can describe it is The Handmaid's Tale set in outback Australia. The book begins with a group of women who wake up in the middle of nowhere to find they are being held captive. Dressed in ill fitting clothes and with their heads shaved, the ten women are strangers to one another but soon discover how they're connected - each woman has previously been involved in some kind of sex crime with a high profile man, be it a politician, a sports star etc. You had me at misogyny!

Things in this story did not go the way I expected them to. This isn't a story about women banding together and finding a way to escape, or teaching their captors the error of their ways. This is a story about women removed from civilisation and from the things that make them human and how they respond to that. Ultimately they each go through various stages of brutality and madness, culminating in almost animalistic behaviour.

A really fascinating read, though it's not a 5 star for me. There were too many unanswered questions and unexplored avenues and a certain suspension of disbelief was required throughout. But a really raw, unique, effed up story that is certainly worth checking out.

Interesting premise. Reminiscent of Handmaids Tale in some ways. I felt like some details were left to be desired, but overall, entertaining read.

That was so odd and... intense.
It was definitely compelling. I couldn't stop myself from reading it. Very bleak and ambiguous which i always struggle with.

What. Also don’t leave me unresolved
