Trigger warnings - SA and suicide
Lucinda Berry did a really great job writing about such triggering topics in a sensitive and respectful way. The details of the event were so minimal that it was more a story about finding justice than it was about the actual act, which I particularly loved. This 'written for audio' book was so well performed. If I could listen to AJ Cook narrate more books, I would in a heartbeat! Tessa Albertson was great too. For how short it was, the storyline was well written and the characters were great. I figured out the ending a little too soon, or I would have given a full 5 stars.

I really want to like Lucinda Berry. I struggle with the subject matter of her books.

This audiobook gave goosebumps as I listened to the phone calls! The story was short and seemed predictable but was also thought provoking. As a mother of teen boys this book put me through a lot of emotions. How would I feel/react in that situation? Nature vs nurture. Is a mother’s love unconditional? Great job making the reader feel the emotions of both main female characters.
I was gifted this from Simon Audio and tossed it on in the car one day. I could not turn it off. A gripping thriller, One of Our Own, grapples with the parent perspective when everything goes wrong with their child. I didn't necessarily think the ending was a big ah-ha moment, but Lucinda Berry did such a great job setting up the pieces, pulling back a hair, just to crash open the story that I didn't mind. I love thrillers, but I also love books that make me think and reflect. One of Our Own did both.

Not sure if I could have mentally prepared for this one! It was a GREAT yet emotional story. It really makes you think about how far you will go to protect your child(ren) and what would you do if you’re ever in a compromising position as the parent. The story follows Felicia, who volunteers at a crisis call center. She receives a call one night from a young girl that that states she’s been assaulted, but does not want to come forward, she just needed someone to talk to. As this story unfolds, secrets are revealed and it doesn’t take Felicia long to figure out that this crime has occurred right in their small town area. Great narration in this audiobook, I was pleased to see AJ Cook as the narrator, as I love her on Criminal Minds. She did very well!
Super quick listen. The story was predictable, but I liked the path it took.
Reminded me a lot of Mad Honey, but still had me on the edge of my seat the entire 4 hours!
