We never really lose the old fears, do we? Magic, monsters, darkness, the things that go bump in the night remain terrifying, even as we add new fears, like having our identities stolen or being digitally stalked. I don't think I've ever read another book that more perfectly captures that.

This was probably one of the weirdest books I read in a while. Do I still have questions about what happened? Yes I do. Did it seem like the author was trying to take on a few too many things? Also yes. Did I go “I’m sorry, what?” Multiple times? 100%
I’m rating this a little above of what I’d say my personal reading experience was (the beginning was a bit slow for me) but I was really impressed with the way this novel brought in mythology, folklore and folktales, retellings, etc. such a fascinating story that’s interested in how we tell and have told stories over time. I definitely need some more time to think over this one. I could so see this being used in a class lol.
Audio. Really good! Modern day fairy tale in the ways of Grimm. Dark, unusual, and relatively believable even. Keeps the reader wondering. Well-written indeed.
As a father, the premise was both harrowing and drawing but ultimately the book fizzes out a bit.

Really interesting and strange! Hard to put down. I will need to read it a few more times before I fully grasp everything but it was a very good book. Reading it felt almost like having a strange dream.
