This book disguises itself as a study of family, but it's written like a common core test- too much info that in the end, ties up to the story somehow, but for me it was a letdown.

I wish I could give it 3.5 stars. I really enjoyed the last 2/3 of the book but I struggled with the beginning. It felt like too much unnecessary background information and I was hoping they would tie up with the main story but it never did. This story could have done without the first 1/3 of the book. I listened to the audio book and liked the performance.

This is not a genre (fantasy/horror)I normally read. Didn’t care for this - just weird but others may enjoy

I finished this book hours ago and I'm still not sure I understood all of it, but it's definitely making me think.

It felt like several short stories mashed together- this first two were pretty interesting but the final chapter was ridiculous. The book ended with so many inconstancies I'm annoyed I spent time finishing this.

Loved this book—was hooked from page one. It ends up in truly unexpected places. I probably wouldn’t read a book that began in the world this book ended in, but the character development in the first half got me so invested I would have followed the characters just about anywhere. There were a couple of threads that got a little hokey & distracting for me, but not enough to put this book down for even a moment. Overall 4.5 stars!

The characters and are interesting, and plot and pacing are good if they seem meandering. A lot is changing, so the novel itself is a bit of a changeling, the way it plays with reader's expectations it establishes. The surprises keep on coming. I liked it quite a lot, but it reminded me a little of Gaiman's (inferior) American Gods, not in a good sense, so 3.5 stars.
