Featuring "Yas, Queen!" x 2.

Teddy has ALL kinds of beloved toys, but Bren-Da, his doll, is his absolute fave (I LOVE the hyphen). They drink tea together and fight crime, but when Bren-Da loses a leg, Teddy tries all kinds of methods to fix her. I'm all for books normalizing kids playing with every kind of toy, especially books which show the kid attempting to fix what is broken instead of instantly chucking the toy in the trash.

3.5 This is the first picture book I’ve ever read with the phrase ‘Yass queen!’ and I’m totally into it.

Impossible not to love a picture book where the boy shouts “Yas, Queen!”

Ummm YES PLEASE. Teddy has lots of cool toys, but his FAVORITE is Bren-Da, who is extremely polite and has sick moves in epic battles. When disaster strikes, though, will Mom help save the day? This book has sneaky diversity and superior use of "YAS-QUEEN!" - new fave.

I love the diverse toy selection and play styles that are represented. I love the mom-as-superhero. It's Toy Story condensed into a short picture book.

This sparked some great discussions with my kids at home.

I just adore the way Trimmer turned Teddy's mom into a heroine. <3

I wasn't sure where this one was going. It's a lovely story about Teddy and his Mom and, of course, Teddy's favorite toy.

I honestly think Berry liked this one because she thought the doll was Ariel. lol The story was okay; not great for a read-aloud, but a fun story that doesn't try to pigeonhole the kid into a gender-normative box for liking a doll.
