What an abhorrent and pathetic main character. Unlikeable is an understatement. And poor Abby, she didn’t deserve anything she got.

Gone to See the River Man was not at all what I thought. I thought it would be more about blood, guts, and glory, but it was more psychological.

I had one of the big twists ruined for me, but it was still disgusting and heartbreaking.

This book delivered horror on a silver platter, but I can’t get over how much of a shitty person Lori is (and that’s the entire point). There are no redeeming qualities about her.

Disturbing beyond any words I could use to do a description justice. I will never read this story again, and I thoroughly need a good, fluffy, happy book to bleach my brain cells with after this…but it was beautifully written. I felt almost every emotion, even the ones I would have rather not. Every character appeared in my mind in vivid detail. The story was so twisted I couldn’t help but continue reading until it was done, purely out of curiosity. A fairly short & incredibly morbid read.

***All the trigger warnings. Don’t read this book if you’re sensitive to any sort of traumatic material, period.***

A solid, twisted, tale.
I've seen this book everywhere lately, so I had to give it a chance. I did enjoy the premise and the unique spin of paranormal-esque/folklore style of story. I wasn't sure what to expect when picking up the story, but I am glad I did.
It might not have been scary and I felt the gore/horror was rather mild, but I did find the underlying "life lessons" coiled around some of the characters. They are exceedingly flawed which makes for an even better read.

I've been putting off reading this for months, and I'm extremely mixed about it. Lori, the main character, must be the most unpleasant or wicked person in the novel. Her style of thinking and saying things was unpleasant and irritated me, but she eventually got what she deserved. She was extremely delusional. It was so infuriating because I couldn't picture a real person thinking this way, but the truth is that people do think this way. Despite her being so irritating, I thoroughly enjoyed the book.

I wish I could wash my eyes with bleach, but here we are.  Wonderfully told, but I wish I never read it.
