This is my 2nd Kristopher Triana book, and like the first, I enjoy his writing style.

This one felt a bit different from the first one I read, but I still enjoyed the read. It's a bit taboo, and I wouldn't consider it a true extreme horror, but I definitely consider it a psychological horror with some splatterpunk and some taboo elements that are in the past but are told on page.

Lori is penpals with Edmund, a man in prison for raping and killing multiple women. She's also in charge of her sister, who suffers from brain damage as a result of a childhood incident. We learn about the disturbing family dynamics between the 2, as well as the younger brother. Edmund requests her to go on a quest to deliver something to the River Man. It gets dark and suspenseful as the journey goes on.

His writing style flows very well, and his character development is on point. With that, on top of great story telling, he is an author I will certainly read more from.

This book singlehandedly put me into a months long reading slump, but I persevere.

The writing style is good, but the content is gratuitous and leans towards shock horror than anything else. Not for me.

Very good book. Terrifying imagery. One of the few books where you actually hate the main character but still like the book.

This was my first book my Kristopher Triana and I was not disappointed! It’s a quick read but it still manages to pack in a whole lot of crazy. The amount of chaos that can happen in a few chapters, or even a few pages, felt like whiplash. There were some parts where i didn’t know whether i was more disgusted or horrified. Probably my favorite part of this book is how horrendous the main character is and how the author doesn’t try to give them any redemption. Too many times have i read books where the author tries to make an awful character likable. This has a little to do with giving the book 4 instead of 5 stars. At times it felt like Lori was starting to realize how delusional she had been and i was hoping that would lead to her downfall. I wanted a moment where she realized she was solely responsible for every bad thing that happened to her and her family and that she’d never truly be happy. The ending felt a little too happy for me, all things considering.

The intense feeling of dread that hooked me from the beginning and only grew stronger after finishing.  So well written, dark,  atmospheric, and gruesome.   Loved it.
