I really don't know whether I love or hate this book.
Let's just say I loved everything but the ending. Good thing I didn't have to wait much for the fourth book.
I love the variety of the words used: liminal, innocuous- they just sound so pretty. lol.
Yeah, there were some bits that made me go 'eew' but all the same, it was a pretty good, addictive read.
I like the change in Mac, how she grew to love the city as well as the bookstore, and her constant calling of 'home' just to call it something- you know that she really grew to think of it as home. Whenever a home or sanctuary is taken away, it becomes a rather touchy subject for me. I don't know why, maybe it's pity that something important is taken away from someone. There are a couple of other reasons why I disliked the ending, but it's a good thing that the next book is coming out soon.
Barrons is still his mysterious self, only, his jealousy is more apparent to me. Haha. IMO, V'lane appears too often and it just annoys the heck out of me that Mac summons him, and not Barrons..
And the birthday cake!! Funny scene, but I won't spoil it.
I admit to not liking some decisions Mac made, but it wasn't done without justification. Also, my favorite scenes were because of her decisions, so it's not like I could complain.
On the other hand, there were lots of 'if's. If- can I add a tiny spoiler? If Mac went with Barrons instead- although I knew she wouldn't, lots of things wouldn't have happened to her. I just gave a vague spoiler, so it shouldn't give too much away.
I'm still disturbed by their last-name calling, which I hope would change in the next book, or the last. I hope it wouldn't just be in the last line of the book where he calls Mac her first name, and then leave it up to the readers to think of what happens next. Ha. I hope there would be more first-name basis calling before the book ends.
I give the book 4 stars. I still think it's better than the first, maybe in tie with the second. The second is still a stand-out to me, although there are a couple of unforgettable scenes in this book.

TBC (series)
This series is so good. It feels like a guilty pleasure. It is, but it also has great characters, great writing and great suspense. I never know what it going to happen next and that keeps me reading.
AHH oh my gosh that ending WRECKED ME. But I loved this book and this series has solidly thrown me out of my 5 year book slump (college...) and back into my book obsession. Karen has such a way with words and characters.
I can't really tell if I like this book anymore. The third one is filled with futility and feels like the ultimate in stalling.
I hope the next is better.
I hope the next is better.
Mac was considerably less obnoxious as a character and that made the book far more enjoyable than previous installments. Even Barrons and V'lane were better. Dani is great. The sidhe-seers are fascinating. That ending cliffhanger was rough. Yikes. Very glad I don't have to wait between books.
It was really good , omg just keeps getting better & better. That cliffhanger at the end though -_- I need the next book NOW ! >:o
