Anyone who reads fantasy should read these books! I can’t put them down!
Yep. 5 stars again. Brutal cliffhanger. We're building up a routine here ;D
And btw: WHY the birthday scene?? Why can't Barrons be nice once in his life?! Poor Mac :(

Holy cow. As with the previous book, I finished this in less than a day. I promise, you won’t be able to stop reading. Moning’s writing is superb and she definitely knows how to keep you on the edge of your seat and keeps you wanting more, more. I am so glad the next installment is readily available. I don’t know how people managed to wait months for the next book, ugh. That ending was evil.
FF is another solid installment in the Fever series. I am captivated by the story of Mac's reluctant crusade to save the world from destruction by Unseelie. The plot moves forward at breakneck speed, never lagging and never losing my interest. I love that the story is so long (5 volumes) with a myriad of characters and a twisting, turning and at times somewhat convoluted plot.
I really like Mac and her development as the story progresses from average 22 year old young woman resisting the responsibilities of adulthood to a tested and hardened warrior shaped and strengthened by her extraordinary experiences. I think she is a strong female lead, and I like that she realizes she is becoming a major player in the game and a force to be reckoned with.
I love Barrons, a perfectly written anti-hero. He is dark, mysterious, dangerous, cold and ruthless; but with a definite soft spot for Mac. It isn't obvious, but if you read between the lines it is clear that " he who feels nothing" feels a very definite something for her; and it seems to unnerve him. And that alone speaks volumes.
FF ended in a very dark place and in her note to readers, the author brings attention back to a previous quote: Your joy can fill you only as deeply as your sorrow has carved you. I don't think the finale of FF can be read in human terms or put into a human world; because that is not what this is. Here in this fantasy with man and monsters from another plane of existence, Mac's horrifying experience of helplessness and humiliation is going to become transformative; and I believe she is going to rise from the ashes like the mythical Phoenix - with this incarnation a stronger and more lethal version than the last.
At least that's what I'm hoping for!!

After Mac’s encounter with the Lord Master, she decides to learn how to defend herself against Voice (what the Lord Master uses to control people). Barrons, in all his mysteriousness, agrees to help her. Although his help is more like bullying but I guess “pot-A-to, pot-Ah-to.” On top of that, Mac also has to deal with the other sidhe-seers attacking her, the rivalry between Vlane and Barrons, and the murders caused by the Sinsar Dubh.
Grrrr! I want to know what Barrons is- the mystery deepens in this installment. Mac learns more about Barrons and his past, but it only raises more questions that he is unwilling to answer. Mac also starts spending more time with Vlane, much to Barrons dismay. During one of their meetings, Vlane tells Mac about the Lord Master (his history). Almost every time Mac is with Vlane, Barrons appears with no warning whatsoever. Then he storms off upset about something (hmm, I wonder).
This book was soooooo good. And the end- what a cliffhanger! But I guess I should have seen it coming since the previous Fever books have had cliffhangers. This one, though, was especially brutal. What I disliked: I found some of the scenes with the other sidhe-seers annoying. Personally, they seem to be completely unhelpful to Mac and her quest. I don’t trust them. This isn't my favorite of the Fever books but I still love it.
