I didn't know this book was part of a series when I picked it up so I haven't read the first book. I really liked the setting of this. I thought it was funny in parts and clever, but also appreciated that the plot lines were heavy but handled appropriately. Exactly the read I was looking for. I'm excited to go back to the first one.

- modern murder meta-mystery
- potentially even better than the first book; poor ernest cunningham keeps finding himself in murderous situations
- perfect blend of campy and witty while tapping into the “locked room/train” trope
- subtle and not so subtle references to Christie and Conan Doyle were *chefs kiss*

Not a single likeable character, down to the narrator. The whole conceit of the book just comes off as unpleasant. I like books that break the fourth wall, but this one reads like someone smugly showing you how a very obvious magic trick was done.
