Jen was whiny than I typically like in a female main character. I wish she would have stood her ground more. I liked this book, but is wasn’t the greatest

This book? Not for me. 🫠 I nearly DNF’d in chapter one. Starting with sexual harassment during a job interview? Bold choice. Even bolder was the FMC’s response: absolutely nothing.

Then came the concert fiasco. Instead of cheering on her man, she spirals into an existential crisis about how she’ll never be a good artist and storms off. Like, ma’am, it’s his night—not the “Me, Myself, and My Insecurities” show.

And the MMC? Emotional stonewalling champion. His response to conflict was to shut her out like she’s a spam call. Honestly, this relationship felt less “romantic” and more “red flag parade.” 🚩

The only reason I finished this was because it’s short (though it could’ve been much shorter) and because it’s part of my StoryGraph Onboarding goals for 2025. But wow, I really earned that little checkmark.

Solid 3 stars!
It was a decent romance. Not my favorite, but it was still good.

I loved this book! I've only read one of the books with the Feral Silence band, but it was nice to see characters from that series carry over. Noah and Jen were great together. I liked seeing them help each other through some things from their pasts, and come out on the other side. The only thing I would change, is that I would have liked to read some from Noah's point of view. It's all from Jen's point of view. I can't wait to find out what happens to the rest of the boys in the band! Athena Wright is quickly becoming one of my favorite authors!

It's a habit I think...

Like the second novel in this series Wright demonstrates she can write a seriously steamy sex scene, she can create interesting and flawed characters, she can even put forth a decent plot concept, the problem is there's more sex in this novel than plot. Probably the most frustrating part about it is the writer is actually very talented, she could give this story so much more than countless steamy sex scenes strung together by a couple pages at most of plot between them, she simply chooses not to. There's an incredible eye for description and detail in this work. There's a depth to some of the scene that displays a deep ability to connect to her characters, she just doesn't bother to put that time and detail into a full plot outside of steamy sex scenes and I don't think that's good enough. You can Ms. Wright and in this case you SHOULD. For what it is it's a decent story, I just feel like it could be and should be so much more.

This was a great rock star romance.

Jen gets her big break in the music business by helping to write a song for the lead singer of her favorite band, Darkest Days. Noah is the jerk he's advertised to be, but beneath the blatant hostility is an amazing guy with sky high walls erected to protect himself.

I think we're only starting to scratch the surface of his character and can't wait to see more of him (and Jen) in future books about the band. I loved the other band members and I'm sure their stories will be must-reads.

I received an advanced reader copy of this book and voluntarily provided this honest review.

DISCLAIMER: I received an e-ARC of this book via the author. Also, I read it a while back but don't remember when that was.

Noah Hart will win your heart. I love Jen; I remember her character from the Feral Silence novels. Her determination to see Noah deeper than the surface and not let him push her away is to be admired. Noah's trust is not easily earned, and at the slightest possibility that Jen would betray him, he doesn't let her come near him again. I love how Jen's character is still friends with Natalia (Natalie?) and Ivy and how they visit this book for a while. Love it!

This was a solidly okay read. Entertaining enough, though at times I felt it moved too fast, and found myself rolling my eyes at the characters. I don't have a burning desire to continue the series, but I may pick it up if I ever find myself without something light to read.

1.5 Disappointing Stars - It was very hard to like Noah. He was an a*sh*le throughout the whole story. No redeeming quality at all.
