[4.5 stars] if it's one thing holly black is gonna do it's write a bloodthirsty feral woman with abandonment issues and a prince who would bend the world to keep her safe !!

I’m getting a lot of flashbacks to my feelings of cruel prince while reading this. I liked it, but I didn’t love it. I’m hoping the second is more like how I felt about the wicked king!
I will say, it was really nice to be back in the world and Holly black knows how to write fairies. Changelings is an under-utilized mythology in books so to see it done well was what I was looking for. I also liked seeing some familiar call backs from the other books. I’m definitely intrigued to read the second!
Reread in March 2024: I think I was too harsh on this book. Its not nearly as good as the wicked king but it was still much better then I remembered. I loved the characters, world and the plot had me interested the whole time. Holly black knows how to do political intrigue.
