Yorkshire, England in 1904. Gothic setting where nothing is as it seems. Main character is a children’s nurse. Really enjoyed this atmospheric read. The audio was extremely well-done with a great Yorkshire accent. This is along the same lines as Rebecca by Daphne DuMaurier and Fingersmith by Sarah Waters.

What a page turner! Fans of Daphne Du Maurier will love the shroud of mystery surrounding both Nurse May and the England family. Although I liked Nurse May right from the start, the author does not allow us to fully believe that she is a reliable narrator. There is something she is not revealing and the niggling doubt about her remains. Similarly, when we get introduced to the England family, the readers vacillate between who to believe - the charming, caring Mr. England or aloof Mrs. England. And when you think the mystery has been resolved, you read the last line, just one single line, and you get a jolt!! All that you read, believed, and thought was beautifully solved is thrown into question.
