A story about two delusional, messy strangers who are brought into each others lives by the one thing they have in common, their dead father. Something else they had in common was their lack of self awareness, but you couldn’t blame or hate them for it. Trauma, grief, addiction, relationships, family dynamics, and more is explored and you can’t help but root for Mickey and Arlo, no matter how many times they fuck up. I was constantly telling them to get it together!!!!! Just two self destructive sisters trying to make it through life. Such a great read and thank you to Morgan Dick for gifting me a copy!

Man this was hard to read at times but oh so compelling. I was tributes by this story. I’m drawn to stories involving secret families but this father’s plot to bring his daughters together was unique and a bit twisted. I feel like the substance abuse storyline while heartbreaking at times was realistic. I loved the story line about Ian, Micky’s student and his uncle but that the focus stayed on the sisters. I thought tom was completely creepy but couldn’t help but be pleased by his growth. Thank God for Daria with all the wisdom and patience and perspective on the world. I was riveted.

"I'm sorry. I should've asked how you've been doing. The flowers stop coming after a couple weeks, but the grief doesn't."

I really like the idea behind the story and I love to read about sisters finding each other, but some parts dragged and I don't think the book explores the daughters' trauma as much as it could have. Since there's not much going on plot-wise I do wish there would've been deeper conversations between the characters, but this only really happens closer to the end.
