I can definitely see how Hayao Miyazaki was inspired by this book to create the film Kiki's Delivery Service. It's very cute. I liked how each chapter is a short story of its own. Not sure if I'm interested in continuing the series, though, since this is middle grade.

Like many others, I grew up watching the Miyazaki movie. The book Kiki's Delivery Service is much like the movie in that it centers around a young coming of age witch named Kiki and her cat Jiji. On a night with a full moon, Kiki decides it is time to leave home for a year to continue her training like her mother before her. Kiki settles down in a bustling town by the sea and starts "Kiki's Delivery Service." The rest of the novel is short snippets of Kiki's day to day life and vignettes of deliveries she takes on. Osono, the painter woman from the woods, and Tombo all make appearances. If you have seen the movie and just want a bit of nostalgia or if you are looking for a sweet heartwarming tale...this is for you.

It was really cute. It was nice to read in the evening before bed. I don’t have much to say, since I don’t have any criticism. I find it hard to review children’s books like that. I really want to rewatch the movie now.
Kiki gets angry sometimes, just like me. I like that.
