Great read
I feel like we went through all of the emotions in this book. This was my first book by Victoria Ashley and it did not disappoint. There is not a full moment, and it’s definitely a book I will recommend to others.
I’m starting the second book now!

At it’s heart, this is a strong story of love and redemption. While it has a captivating start and an incredibly satisfying ending, the stuff in the middle drags a bit. There’s a lot of back and forth, ‘come here, you’re mine - no go away - no come here, I want you.’ A few plot points also felt unbelievable.
There were a few times I put this one down and wasn’t sure I would finish it. However, the action really picked up at about 85% and I was really glad I stuck with it for the happily ever after.
Triggers: rape, murder, child loss

The cringe got very real. I fucking HATE. third act break ups, the MMC running away when she admits she loves him, and when he abandons her for long periods of time and all three of those were present in the last two hours of the book. Not to mention the cringey wall punching, hair pulling, and repetitive language. Honestly I'm not picky about books but this just had all of the tropes/ scenarios that I fucking hate. Thankfully got the audiobook for free and didn't waste a credit on this.
Holy smokes… Where to begin with this book. The emotions that this book evokes is all over the place. I felt happy, sad, angry, frustrated; pretty much every emotion across the board. What Victoria Ashley did with this book was a master piece. Raw, gritty and passionate. This book takes things to a whole new level.
Royal is broken in so many ways. His character was so brilliantly written. The angst and the pain that he goes through to survive his daily life is heart wrenching. I wanted to cry as I found more about him. He has been through so much and felt like he was unworthy of love ever. Enter Avalon who is trying to break free from a stifling relationship and when she comes face to face with Royal, the sparks fly. These two, even though they fight their attraction, had sparks flying that my ereader could literally melt. The way these two compliment each other was phenomenal. Avalon goes the extra mile with Royal and sticks by him no matter what. The passion these two have is smoking hot and yet they are mentally in tune with each other.
The secondary characters also add so much to the book too. Their quick wit and easy banter has this book flowing so fast that when it ended I really wanted to scream NOOOOOO. Not gonna lie but the ending and how things came full circle had me crying. This book gives you the meaning of sticking by your family, blood or not. This book gave me chills reading it and I won’t lie… I pictured the cover model the whole time I read this. SO amazing. Words cannot explain how much this book gripped my heart and soul. For being my first Victoria Ashley book… I am going in for more! A million stars if I could!

2.5 rounded to 3 started-awesome-and-went-slowly-downhill stars
This book started as a solid 4 stars for me. Slowly building references to some terrible event in the past, dark, violent and yet fragile and trustworthy H.
I had some issues with Avalon though, finding it more difficult to grab her character. She appeared so solid in her relation with Royal, knowing how to react to his ever changing attitude, and yet she was and had been so pliable with her douchebag boyfriend. But still she was ok.
The book started losing its appeal after about 35%. A number of reasons for that, mainly related to Royal.
I am fine with a character having some issues torturing him but you can only read so many times about it "My memories and loss of the past will always fucking consume me; therefore fueling the monster that I've become and making it impossible for me to love her the way that she deserves" that sort of inner monologue in almost any Royal-centered chapter quickly became boring. Same with all these impromptu scenes showing how good a man he really was under his badass biker look. Once the message is through, why keep repeating it ?
And then there were these terrible past events. And yes they were awful, and you could understand Royal's need for (further) revenge, and you knew (with all of the "he is not such a bad man" repeats) that he would "see the light" but why in such a syrupy way ? Frankly that's when the book started going down to 2ish stars.
And then there was the ultimate plot twist and frankly I found it so silly. I won't put any spoiler here, but how can a author just blow away such a carefully built plot with no hint of an explanation !
Bottom line : I like badass bikers romances and I like fairy tales ... Just don't mix the two.
