I bought this for the cover and the hype, but don't think it deserves it. My main gripe was there was no clear world. The soldiers and war being described makes it sound like it's the Civil War, but at the same time he's talking about going to therapy and getting Jolly Ranchers. It took me out of the story and made it seem less real.

A beautiful heartwarming story.

I hope it wins the Newbery. This was excruciating in the first couple of chapters when the boy and the fox are separated forcibly by the boy's horrible father. But the hopeful ending made me happy I persisted. Be prepared to cry! Incredibly beautifully written, and a powerful anti-war book, among other things.
emotional sad tense fast-paced

Touching and unique coming of age story. Peter and Pax find their fierce loyalty for one another growing to include others. Reminiscent of The One and Only Ivan. Pax is the Bambi of this generation.

Oh my freaking heart

So good. Depressing but hopeful. I loved the alternating chapters. Some parts are (intentionally?) left vague, not sure how I feel about that. Otherwise, really good. Liked it a lot and would recommend.

Cenderung datar.

Outstanding novel So touching. Excellent read aloud. Students in 5th & 6th grade would enjoy reading.

What a great book. It's rough and doesn't pull any punches. It touches on family, responsibility, finding help in unexpected places, and war. A fantastic read with strong characters.
