Stunning. A wonderful read, on par with books like Old Yeller, Island of the Blue Dolphins and My Side of the Mountain. A gripping read with a truly perfect ending. I loved it

This book has my heart. The storytelling is simple and beautiful. I fell in love with both the boy and the fox. I already miss them.
The inspiring and heartbreaking tale of a boy and his fox. This is sure to on the radar of many award panels in the spring.

Read with my class. Excellent use of metaphor to describe the anxiety snake!
I think this was a really lovely kids' book, and I can see why so many people like it, but for me I felt parts of it dragged a bit, and I thought the ending was kind of expected-which isn't always a bad thing, especially when the whole book is about a certain kind of theme and the end hammered that home. I think this is a book about growing up and letting go and finding yourself and finding what you fight for, and there's lots of complicated and gray feelings, which is so important in middle grade fiction, but I don't know. It didn't land the same way for me as some other MG fiction I've read lately. Maybe it was because this was on audio and I've heard the illustrations add a lot, so. YMMV.
Kids weren't enjoying it, not enough dialogue for them.
A heart wrenching story that unfolds right from the start but which asks important (and unanswerable) questions. This book was best for me as I read it together with my son - which blatantly has influenced my scoring. :)
