Beautifully worded and I love the cover illustration (yes, I actually read the paper copy having bought this for my kid as a summer read) He still hasn't picked I up but the paper was thick and rough-edged like art paper. ANYWAY, the author tells this story from two perspectives: a fox and his boy. Each chapter switches voice. It's a love story in a war setting (the latter part was a little confusing, not sure which war or where we were) The ending is predictable but seemed abrupt; I was left wanting more about the father, Vola etc.

A wonderful story for any animal lover (meant for ES/MS but who doesn't love a fox story)

If I'd read this as a kid *****SPOILER ALERT*****

I'd have been sobbing all the way through it. Animal struggles are real people. I liked the personification of Pax though. I felt like his personality coincided with his species. Great writing. Great characters. Loved it.

Damn. This book packed a punch.

Beautiful touching story of love and caring. Delicate pictures by Jon Klassen brought this story to life. Oneness shown in such a beautiful way that children and adults can understand it.

This was giving Watership Down and Fox and the Hound.  While this is primarily a children's book, adults can find this quite relatable.  However, it doesn't really specify when and where the story takes place but it seems there's a war going on and that it is possible it's in the US.

I'm kind of ambivalent about the ending and I'll admit, I wished it resulted differently.

So so so good. Broke my heart over and over and I cried buckets.

Don't judge a book by its awesome Jon Klassen cover.

An excellent read that asks “What is family?”

Sweet, tragic, touching, simple, surprising, youthful, clever - I loved this book!
