It wasn’t bad, just didn’t catch my interest and I was “slick” to death of the use of slick as an indicator of sexual arousal. DNF at 86%

I have been in a reading slump for so long, started countless books and nothing could pull me out of it. Until this. It was such easy reading, you were pulled along by the plot and characters, there was no slow moments. Fun and sexy. Everything I needed to fix my slump.
I had to up the rating of this to a 5 cause months later I'm still thinking about how amazing this was!

It was meh to me. Not horrible but also not great either. I think some paranormal romances are not for me and engravers/borderline omegaverse is just not my thing lol. But if you like that kinda stuff, you’ll prob like this book. I won’t be continuing the series.

It was fine, but it could REALLY use a good editor. There were multiple points where words were missing - prime example being page 43 where a sentence just ends in the middle and we move on to the next paragraph. However, I went into this expecting a story that wasn't the best written but would be a good break after what I have been reading. There is a lot lacking from the book for me to actually call it a good book and say I enjoyed it, but it was a nice break and I wouldn't be opposed to reading something else in the series.
I didn't care for the drama with Marilyn and Flint was a total ass about it. A LOT is left unexplained about the world so the worldbuilding is a little lackluster. No, I don't need a bunch of explanation about what is clearly supposed to be North America, but we get very very little in regards to the different types of shifters, a rare set of them being healers (and she's apparently at least slightly psychic since she has the vision of her wedding dress and where he takes her after the wedding, are there other powers??), then witches get thrown into the mix.
Plus the reproduction aspect is...odd. It's like it's split between an alpha/omega type trope and the true mate trope where the characters can only reproduce with their true mate. From what I could gather, there has to be some level of sexual attraction that causes the female to go into heat and it's strongest with your true mate. She never got pregnant with Zagan because she absolutely hated his guts. But even describing it as "in heat" is an interesting word choice because it really isn't a heat, the female in the situation gets wet and is extremely fertile if she reacts to someone. One would expect a willing female to be aroused but apparently this author chooses to use it in a different way.
As someone else mentioned, there is also a lot of repetition and the number of times the word "slick" is used is high. I read the kindle version so I searched and got 39 results. If you count all the title pages and the excerpt from Slash's book there are 392 pages in the book. Without the extra pages there are around 378.

3.75 stars: I would do 4 stars except for the plot and content. There wasn’t a lot of depth to the plot. At least she came out with what is is early enough to not frustrate the readers.
The easy acceptance of Flint and Layla’s mate bond never ceases to amaze me. But when you know you know. I know it’s just part of the process between shifters, even ones of a different species.
I was surprised at how quickly she was found and the lack of explanation on the process. You would think that the number of miles she traveled would have made a difference.
The next book might get read when bored.

I wanted to like this but there was just too much holding me back from really sinking into it. It happened fairly quickly into the book too so finishing was a struggle. I can't stand cheating in books even if they "weren't a real couple." The fact that Flint was a bit of a man whore before felt like a huge red flag with him being already paired with Marilyn. Marilyn and Slash were just absolutely annoying to me. Most of the characters were a bit annoying. I get the hits the story was trying to make but it just didn't work for me.

Fun shifter story
This was a fun way to start a series. I am never a fan of insta love/lust for some reason I’m okay with it if it’s mates?
