I was laughing out loud! Hilarious!

I read a lot of Amelia Bedelia books growing up. I remember her doing all kinds of strange things but didn't remember what. It was nice to revisit this book after such a long time. It was humorous all of the silly things she did like hang the light bulbs outside instead of turning them off and actually drawing the drapes on paper, not shutting them. She misinterpreted the entire list. When the Rogers got home and nothing was done the way they asked it to be done, Mrs. Rogers was furious and would have fired her right then but Amelia's lemon meringue pie was so good they kept her. Her dressing the chicken in Lederhosen was quite humorous to me but Mrs. Rogers reaction was priceless. Mr. Rogers didn't know what to think of the whole affair but he loved the pie! The truly funny part was Amelia was totally clueless that she did anything wrong. This is why children love Amelia. The illustrations were very colorful and descriptive. Each picture captured what was going on in the scene perfectly. The pictures look to be drawn by hand and watercolor was applied to the pictures later. Ages 8-10

I got this thinking my daughter would love Amelia’s literal-mindedness but instead she politely ask me that we never read this book again because the image of Amelia dressing a chicken stressed her out. I enjoyed the book, but I can see why that idea could bother my kid. Alas!

The inspiring story of a family born entirely without autism, who nevertheless (with the help of a patient teacher) learned how to express themselves accurately.

I love Amelia Bedelia and still read her when I find myself in a waiting room.

freakin funny

I read this book repeatedly as a kid because I was determined to learn how to get her last name to rhyme with her first name. I knew it had to rhyme but I could not get it to. Read alone/quiet reading in school mostly so I never heard anyone say her name. I re-read it last night for analyzing children literature. It's still amusing but now I get to look at stories based on how I can teach the stories in class.

This was one of my favorites from childhood! I read it over and over...I could never get enought of it!

Oh my gosh, I loved this book! I will always remember how Amelia Bedelia misinterpreted all Mr. and Mrs. instructions -- I especially loved when she was told to get a spot out of a dress so she got some sewing scissors and cut all the polka dots out of her employers clothing! Such a fun book, and I liked the way it made me think about the different meanings of words.
