When I first read the summary I was kind of intrigue about this book, so I gave it a try. Once I finished, I had mixed feelings, it wasn’t the worst book i have ever read, but it wasn’t the best either.
This book tells the story of Lara Jean, who has a box with letters for her crushes, till one day, when she discovers that every letter has been mailed to every one of them (mysteriously). Interesting. As you keep reading, you find out the story behind those letters and why she wrote them. The same goes to her relationship with her older sister, who Lara adores, Josh who is her sister's ex-boyfriend and Peter, her first kiss and now her fake-boyfriend, because they want to make Josh jealous (she is in love with him) and Gen (Peter's ex-girlfriend). As I keep reading, I find out the story simple, cliche i should say… And I’m not going to lie, I’m used to this kind of stories, but this one is not what I expect, it was banal.
It started quite good, but the attitude of the main characters were sometimes childish, immature, so in the end I didn’t connect emotionally with any of them, specially with Lara Jean, she is all the adjectives i’ve mentioned before and maybe its just that i like characters with more attitude. I don’t think the age (she is 16) can be an excuse. She has a friend called Chris, and I really wished their relationship meant something, Chris was a pointless character.
It feels like there’s no character growth, well, there’s not, and that’s what I expect the most with characters, especially if we are talking about the main character. At least a little bit of romance which is a huge absence in the entire book, what's the point of a young adult book without romance?
Quite disappointed and I'm not sure if I should read the sequel, but i would like to see if there's some improvement, I hope there is.

Honestly for me this book would be tons better if their dialogue and actions match their age. Like for Chris, Gen, and Peter I could def be on board for being a junior in high school. Margot, Kitty, Laura Jean, and Josh on the other hand sound like they’re in middle school. And I’m supposed to believe that Margot and Josh had sex?!?! Like there’s not a chance in a million years that that actually happened. I really liked Peter despite him being sexually assaulted by Laura Jean, he honestly needs to find someone better than her. He also needs to get over his ex like gen isn’t anything but a b word through and through. Pretty good overall, wish the characters didn’t sound so young.

This is absolutely everything a YA romance is supposed to be. So cute it had me missing high school, somehow. It would be a perfect five star book but I have to be honest, the ending was a little bit of a let down (the blame is on the YA-trilogy industrial complex, but I digress).
I didn't expect that I would love this book. The story sounded far too cheesy, but it wasn't. The story took unexpected turns and I began to love the characters and the way they unfolded. The writing was fun and upbeat and I laughed out loud a couple of times because of the nice characters and situations. I also love that I have the recipes to make my own Christmas Cookie Bonanza!
2nd read
When I first read this book, I was practically the same age as Lara Jean, I loved the book so much back then and laughed so hard reading it. Now I picked it up for the second time 3 years later and felt that it was a lovely story, but it didn't resonate with me as it did years ago. Still a great read, but not on my favourites list anymore.
