A companion to Where the Mountain Meets the Moon and Starry River to the Sea, this book can be read independently.
As always, Lin does an amazing job of weaving multiple traditional tales into her own unique story. I felt the characterization and blending of the storylines was incredibly strong and more reminiscent of Where the Mountain Meets the Moon.

I loved Grace Lin's, Where The Mountain Meets The Moon. This book is similar in structure; it deals with an adventure using folktales/fairytales to guide the characters and provide background knowledge for the readers. Would be a great read aloud for K-6.
Maybe 3.5? If I read alone would probably be 4, but I liked the other 2 books that seem to pair 2with this one more (where the Mountain Meets the Moon remains my favorite!)... predictable in many places but beautiful anyway.
Just finished reading this with the kids. Wonderful story about the power of stories.
Absolutely gorgeous. The artful weaving of myths with a page-turning narrative (and wonderful main characters) floored me. Loved the theme of stories as immortality: how we remember ourselves and our histories through our stories. Highly recommend.

I loved this book. It's full of delightful Chinese mythology and wonderful quick stories intersperesed with the main storyline of the book. I highly recommend for anyone who likes fantasy especially fantasy with a mythological element.
