3.5 stars. as someone from europe whos been doing ballet for over 15 years this book was interesting mainly bc of the change of perspective.
i personally found the advice given and the exercises highlighted to be rather basic and more interesting for someone who is young and just starting their ballet journey and not necessarily what would've been interesting for me.

i was however very compelled by the food aspect of the book and am looking forward to trying out some of the mentioned receips.

definitely one of the more well-rounded, body positive diet/fitness books I've ever read. diet is low carb fyi, so if you can't live without it this might not be the "lifestyle" for you. very pro good fats. not exactly going to hold your hand for the cooking part. no comment on the fitness routines provided.

A book that I should pick up to own - I need the PDF and recipes, etc. for myself.

I was disappointed. The book is split into four sections; I skipped mind and scanned mentors focusing on meals and motion.

Motion. I'm not a ballerina. I am a yogi and understand body movement probably better than your average person. I couldn't decipher the floor exercises. Perhaps if you have a ballet background, they will make more sense to you. But even when I was just beginning yoga practice and would flip through yoga books, I understood the instructions for the poses.

Meals. I'm a vegetarian. These meals are not. I don't spend 8+ hours per day dancing, so for me and most people, it makes more sense for lunch to be our largest meal when the sun is at its peak and we have the rest of the day to burn off the energy we've consumed. When she eats dinner (no joke, Copeland writes that she loves to get home at the end of the day sit on the couch and have a snack, or maybe a meal if she's hungry. Girl. Eat dinner!), it's the biggest meal and she recommends a big piece of fish.

I appreciate the structure of mindfulness, motion, meals, and mentors but don't see the book being particularly insightful or helpful. Often I read a book and while it is not for me I can imagine an intended audience. Perhaps other dancers looking to break into the professional world of ballet? But wouldn't they already know most of this?

I am a Misty Copeland fan. I really enjoyed [b:Life in Motion: An Unlikely Ballerina|18143768|Life in Motion An Unlikely Ballerina|Misty Copeland|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1413166545s/18143768.jpg|25752629] and Firebird is beautiful. I'm glad I didn't buy Ballerina Body when it was published.

3 solid stars. This isn’t marketed as a memoir, but more of a “manual” for body and mind so to speak. So, I didn’t expect Misty to go extremely in depth as to her personal struggles, hopes, and dreams. That being said, she does share favorite memories, discusses things she does in fact struggle with (red lobster cheddar biscuits anyone!) and provides a heap of tips.

This is divided into three sections; mind, fitness, and recipes. I personally purchased this for the barre fitness as I love barre classes. Welp, it was a bust! Complete fail. A bunch of text with not enough pictures and often unhelpful pictures. They looked straight from the 80s. No real fitness plan to speak of.

The mind section was okay. Great for a younger high school/ college audience. I’m 31 with two kids, a job, and a mortgage. I think anyone over 30 would really just skim that. Surprisingly, the recipes are where this shines. Very beautiful pictures, easy to follow recipes, and not a bunch of steps and ingredients. I plan to try a few. -‘s I don’t even like to cook. So, it’ll probably remain just a plan but hey it’s the thought that counts right?! Meal plans and grocery lists are also included.

A very inspirational read, particularly about Misty's rise to fame and her background story. I also did learn a lot more about nutrition (like good fats) that I hadn't really discussed with my own nutritionist just yet. I can't wait to try out the recipes in the back!

Whilst most of the advice is neither new nor revolutionary, it is a nice read.
I would have loved to read its physical copy instead of an ebook version though.
