The rating would be 3.5 stars if that were possible. I enjoyed Mike Greenberg's All You Could Ask For, the story of three very different women's battle with breast cancer and how they come together to support one another. I actually listened to most of the book in my car while driving back and forth to help out family, but read the last 60 pages at my destination. It was a quick read both ways. I'm very impressed by how emotional and insightful Greenberg's writing is when it comes to the three main female characters. I enjoyed how he switched perspectives between the three and the story unfolded slowly describing each of their lives and eventual battle with cancer. The first half of the novel takes place before any diagnoses are made, but it allows you to really get to know and care for the main characters. All You Could Ask For is a beautiful story of support and the motives behind women's choices, priorities, and reasoning at different stages of life. It is especially touching when you get to the end and read Heidi's story, the real woman who inspired Greenberg to write this novel.

While it is a great story, something was missing, keeping me from giving it more stars and immediately recommending it to friends as a must read. I'm not quite sure what it was. It could just be from listening to most of the book rather than reading it.

It has been a long time since I enjoyed chick-lit however, I loved this book. (Strangely, it was written by a man so perhaps that was one reason why I liked it so much.) It was nice to have a book with three strong female characters; women whom you could admire and aspire to be. In many ways, I could see similar characteristics in the real-life women I surround myself with. Eleanor Roosevelt once stated that, "A woman is like a tea bag-you can't tell how strong she is until you put her in hot water". These women were all in burning water and came out unscathed and stronger for going through it...and their answer (surprisingly) was not a man (like the typical chick-lit).

Originally drawn to it based on it being written from the perspective of 3 women. But written by mike and mike in the morning Espn host mike Greenberg. I was intrigued cuz of the seeming contradiction. Started out written like a beach read but then got way more serious. A little cliche in an "everyone gets a nauseating happy ending way" but not a terrible summer read. Quick, that's for sure.
emotional medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: Plot
Strong character development: Complicated

I am not sure this books characters even understood what they were supposed to represent.

The first part of this book felt really disjointed with the second part. I enjoyed the first half a lot more than the second.

I think the part I of this book is a tad disappointing, I'm not sure why but Part II makes up for it by a landslide. It is so good, so deep, so emotionally satisfying.

This book follows three women, Brooke, Katherine, and Samantha, in their parallel lives. Each woman is drastically different: Brooke has been happily married for years, Katherine is a single career woman, and Samantha has just been married two days when she discovers her husband is cheating on her; but they come together with a twist in the second half of the book. The story was written where each woman's section bled into the other, even though they didn't know each other at that point. Ex: They'll use the same phrase in totally different ways, or one character's cliffhanger will also work for another. It was just a fun little addition to the book.

I picked up this book thinking I wouldn't really enjoy it. After all, how could a man write an all-female cast of characters with any accuracy. I will be the first to admit I was completely wrong. Greenberg wrote these women with insight and heart that came as a complete surprise to me. I would happily recommend this book to other readers.
