I've always wanted to get my hands on this since I heard her speeches years ago (but I never got to it until I found out my neighbour has it). She's articulated and charismatic in her own ways, and when she speaks it's captivating. One of my favourite quotes from her was, "When they go low, we go high."

While I may not agree with everything she opinionated (well, I don't have to), I liked how she wrote this book. It's an easy page-turner, feeling almost like she was talking to her readers. She'd let us in to her days from her childhood (my favourite part of the book) to her husband's run for presidency and finally her journey as FLOTUS.

Disclaimer: I was a fan of Michelle Obama before reading this book!

NOW, I am an even bigger fan. This woman is the definition of class and poise. I relate to her central premises: taking situations and deciding what to do to make things better, using your voice, putting your reputation behind causes in which you believe. She tells all of this about her time as First Lady and talks about growing up working class and using her education and drive as a lever to pull herself out of where she started into the woman she has become. If I can be so bold: I can relate to that since my education changed my life, too!

“Since childhood, I’d believed it was important to speak out against bullies while also not stooping to their level. And to be clear, we were now up against a bully”.

Michelle Obama is one of the most well respected, well put together, graceful and dignified women in the world. Her husband? Well he was just a man she mentored one day who happened to be the future forty fourth president of the United States. I respect the Obama’s not for what they have managed to change but for what they haven’t. They have always been this humble and kind, striving for a better life for all. Michelle may not have liked her husbands decision to go into politics but she made the right movements when they got there. Between them they made the US a better place. Now tell me please, how the hell do you go from a respectable family to the devil incarnate?

Michelle Obama is a deeply impressive person.
I didn't love all of this book, but I came away admiring and inspired.

Michelle Obama has always been a much needed breath of fresh air in not only our political landscape, but in life in general. She brings a no-nonsense attitude along with infectious laughter and some serious fucking wit and determination to the pages of her book and clearly her life & mine & I am sure, yours, too!

If you haven’t read this book, what are you even doing with your life?

I am not one to write many reviews on Goodreads but felt moved to do so with this book. I am constantly inspired by Michelle Obama’s wisdom and insight as well as her ability to find deeper meaning in even the smallest of moments. Reading this book was refreshing and delightful. By far one of my favorite biographies I’ve read!

I loved this book it was interesting, I found it easy to read and thought provoking. I liked the style of writing and fell a bit in love with the family. I was impressed with the attitude to life and it inspired me. I am not from an ethnic background, I live in a multi cultural city, but it made me want to make sure that everyone is included and equal everywhere and never has to feel marginalised.
I would highly recommend this book to everyone.
