I loved it. It took me a little while to like the story but once Tristan met Claire's children I couldn't stop reading. I was trying to contain my laughter in the office (without much success, unfortunately, I don't know what my boss thinks of me now).
I hate books where the main characters' children are basically plants that appear when it’s convenient for the plot. But in this one, the children are the best part of the book. It has super funny scenes but also very sad and tense moments because of the grief of the family towards the death of the father. But the balance is very well written.
Tristan is a 100/10, my respects to him. Claire I also liked but near the end, she did something that made me hate her a bit. I liked Tristan's mom in the last book, she helped solve the conflict but in this one, she seemed to me like a gossipy old woman.
I liked the ending but I was a little unsatisfied, it was too abrupt.
“I never knew what hell looked like. Now I do.”
“And the dog,” I cry. “The poor fucking dog.”
“What’s wrong with the dog?”
“They have a fucking bucket thing tied to its head.”
“What for?”
“To torture it . . . why else?”

Spoiler
(I was waiting for the Miles family reunion with the children, the adoption papers, and when they finished the rocket and took it to the store seller)
Decent but needed more
The kids and pets are some of the funniest things I’ve read. The initial meeting was believable and interesting. The second meet-cute was great.
Spoilers ahead…….
What frustrates me was how little they communicated. The sex was great, the chemistry off the charts - but didn’t they ever talk? Decisions made after being together months (at least 7 - because Claire makes that comment at one point) and they’ve never discussed? House? Future? Dead husband? Failing company? How can you call someone your partner and basically buy a house without discussing the situation. And the kids future? Nobody sat down and discussed their reasoning? - like adults? Just a lot of “deal breaker comments” - “how dare you” inner monologues.
They drew so many lines in the sand - only to realize they missed sex - so they got back together.
I would consider this a HFN - happily for now - there will be resentment in the future. He’s given up so much to give in to her demands. And I’m bummed that he has to quit Miles Media in order to save her company. His mother was right - all he wants to do is swoop in and fix things. If he really is a fixer - there should have been a way to have Anderson Media go under the Miles media umbrella - which would still allow the Andersons to run it.
And there were lots of details that were wrong. For one, The Edison hotel is a dump. For that to be their hotel - oh geez…..
and to buy an engagement ring where he did? No way. He would have gone straight to Neil Lane and had the diamonds brought to him. Or had a shopping trip at Tiffany’s with the boys.
And no epilogue?? Was it a boy? Was it a girl? Did they finally move? When did they marry? What about his mother? Did Claire ever develop a friendship with anyone???? Did Claire still work at Anderson? Does she do something else that she actually liked?
There were so many things I did love about the book - the banter, the kindness of Tristan - over and over and over again - the boys - their initial meeting with Tristan is some of the funniest stuff I’ve ever read. Ever.
But sadly, so many things didn’t hit the mark for me. It wrapped up way too quickly. I don’t really remember them ever leaving Paris. Suddenly they were ring shopping. Sigh….

I cannot remember the last time I had so much fun reading a story. This book was absolutely hilarious, and absolutely adorable. Thank you so much TL Swan for writing such a wonderful story. This was a lovely second chance love story, which I usually don’t really like but I found both Claire and Tristan’s personality and love story so hilarious and witty and they were just a natural match made in heaven. The last 1/4 of the story was pretty emotional and was unexpected but it made the love story all the more beautiful.
It’s crazy how we think we know what our “type” is until we meet that person who doesn’t check any of our boxes but fits us just right.

I fell in love with Tristan the first time I've met him in The Stopover and I couldn't wait to get to his story. I went in blind and I got a story that I've never expected to be his but it couldn't be more fitting to him.
Gosh, I love this gorgeous and caring man, I think I found my new favorite book boyfriend.
This book made me laugh out loud so many times and broke my heart at the next turn. This book shows how close good times and bad times are. That life is a fine line between all the good, all the bad, all the laughs and all the cries.
Compared to Jameson and Emily's first encounter, Tristan and Claire's kind of fell short to me. But their dynamic started to take off in Paris. Similar to The Stopover, The Takeover's first part of the story is dominated by their sexual attraction and chemistry and then turns to some more serious topics. I love how Tristan is with Claire's kids and how he found his own way to connect with each of them in their own special way. I love how we get to see Claire's inner struggles and seeing her working through this, away from the guilt falling in love with another man to the point she can start over new.
Tristan came in like a tornado: fast, hard and unexpected. He took over my heart and mind like only someone like him could do.

This book takes me breath away
This book steals my breath every time I read it. Tristan and Claire. Second Chance Soulmates. This book made me laugh, cry, and swoon. I’m obsessed with Fletcher and hope he gets his own book one day. I love Trick and The Magician, and I’m obsessed with how Tristan loves Claire. Every woman needs a Tristan!

Liked this one a lot better than the first. It was so sweet and it made me wanna curl up in a ball and cry happy tears. The last 10 pages or so, however, felt rushed. A sweet ending but rushed.
