The Takeover: ★ ★ ★ ★ . 5
T. L. Swan (Miles High Club #2)
“You and the boys . . . are saving me. Not the other way around.”
After a heated business offer gone wrong with Tristan Miles, Claire Anderson wants absolutely nothing to do with him until six months later, one week at a conference and one weekend in Paris and just one more time turn into so much more.
Tropes:
– Enemies to friends-with-benefits to lovers
– Single, widowed, older mom
– Workplace-ish romance (he wanted to buy out her company)
– "Just one time to get it out of our systems."
Listen, if you're surprised that this is my final read of the year, believe me. I am too. I saw a quote this morning and literally just couldn't not pick it up and then the next thing I knew, I was done. This book was so easy to fly through, despite how long it is (not very long but I didn't expect to be done so quickly either).
I ate this up. It was so unbelievably good. Tristan's literally my kind of guy–good looking, rich, cocky in every single way, but has an absolute heart of gold underneath. He's a soft sweetheart and the way he makes Claire feel is just incredible. He's persistent, despite all her attempts to push him away and will not let her give up on them before she's even given them a shot. It's just so sweet how absolutely gone he was for her from the start. He's truly the dream man–hot, possessive, witty, charming, attentive, and just overall perfect. Also he's a billionaire so like, extra points.
The absolute highlight of this book though? Tristan and the kids. Oh. My. God. Tristan and Tricky–made my heart melt. Tristan and Fletch–literally precious. But Tristan and Wiz–EVERYTHING. I am seriously telling you, this man was perfect. He was what the boys deserved and the way he talked about them, the way he grew to love them, the way he'd do anything to make them happy and the way they just became his was... wow. Just wow. Not to mention, the things the kids would do for him? Oh, how the turn tables. So touching, so heartwarming. If this book was just about Tristan and the kids, it would be 5+ stars.
Sometimes the dead partner is not done well because the person usually puts them down or there's a constant comparison but this one was not like that, which I really appreciated. It struck a good tone of being able to appreciate Wade but also make so much room for Tristan without being dismissive. Claire was a little immature for me and she got on my nerves so bad around the "conflict" of this book. I was literally staring at the words coming out of her mouth like, "Be so for real." I was honestly glad that Tristan walked out saying "I will not be anyone's substitute" because yes king, know your worth.
Anyway, as I mentioned above, Tristan is perfect. Actually perfect. I love him so much. And his relationship with the boys made this such an amazing read. I loved it endlessly!

4.5 stars, 3.25 spice
This book was stupid good. It had me laughing out loud, and crying (I think I cried 3 or 4 seperate times) SOOOO much better than the first one. I absolutely loved the dynamic between h/H and the fact that he was younger than her (34 vs. 38) and that she is a widow (with 3 boys, who are a total handful) was so fun. Really never read a romance quite like this one and It was amazing.
So many funny moments, but also many raw ones

Are you kidding me?! This was one of the best contemporary romances I’ve ever read. SO. FUNNY.

The MMC and FMC annoyed the ever living hell out of me. Some of the descriptive language made me cringe. Tristan is a spoiled ass man child, Claire is fickle, and oblivious.
The dialog was not fluid, with strange pacing for the story in general. I found myself constantly making sure I hadn’t skipped a page.
Harry aka the wizard, is the only redeeming quality of this book.

i loved Claire and Tristan so much! i’ve heard great things about this series and this book meet the expectations! Their relationship was great and i loved the relationship between Tristan and the kids. i’m usually not a fan of single parent romances but this one was top tier!

Tristan F*cking Miles.
He is the ultimate book boyfriend. Tristan knows what he wants and he doesn't mind going after it. And not only does he want Claires business, but he wants Claire. Claire is struggling to keep her dead husbands business afloat. With 3 boys at home, she's determine to make it work; to give them their fathers' legacy. She turns him down only to have him ask her on a date, which she quickly declines. That is, until they run into each other at a conference.
Tristan is literally everything you could ever ask for in a book boyfriend. He's kind, he's assertive, he's sexy. He is just....everything. This is my favorite TL Swan book ever!

Finished this book in one day!! The character interactions and dynamics were amazing! Funny, heartbreaking, and beautiful. It takes a lot for a boo to make me cry and this one did that. Love all the Miles High Books!!
