It was interesting to read but the tale became gripping only in the latter parts. The first leg of the journey just after the discovery of the savant's secret message gets monotonous and if you are uninterested in geology then even a bit boring at parts. But even then the theories and facts of physics applied like the Central Heat Theory and the Ruhmorkff apparatus to light inert and unreactive fires was very unique and great to read. There were not many great quotes out here since the book was more scientific and adventurous but some of my favourites are:

In the August presence of rhombohedral crystals, retinasphaltic resins, gehnelites, fassaites, molybdenites, tungstates if manganese, and titanite of zirconium, why, the most facile of tongues may take a slip now and then. (I LOVED THIS PART AND THIS ASPECT WAS NOT USED TO ITS POTENTIAL)

Books instead of growing mouldy behind an iron grating, should be worn out under the eyes of many readers.

When science has uttered her voice, let the babblers hold their peace.

Science has been built upon many errors; but they are errors which it was good to fall into, for they led to the truth!

As long as the heart beats, as long as body and soul keep together, I cannot admit that any creature endowed with a will has need to despair of life.

At last, Jules Verne's imagination was just beyond our world and he is one of the best science fiction writers of all time!

I still love this book and have such fond memories of reading it as a child.
I removed the rating as now I realised of its problematic depictions.
While Jules Verne was slightly more open minded compared to other white male authors of his time, he was still a great beliver of the white male supremacy.

My favorite book by Verne.
I'll never forget how much I loved it as a child.

Heavy emphasis on "journey to." Bout 60 pages into a 200-page book, and we were still traveling to Iceland.
