The dullest thing I’ve ever experienced.
Based on the title and the film, I had high expectations. Should you choose to venture forth in your decision to read this, know it’s all LIES.
Literally nothing happens until 80% through the book. Then, when the company of adventurers does manage to reach their destination, there is no adventure- only observation of the flora and fauna that they very occasionally come across. It’s written like a series “scientific” journal entries, so everything is written in pseudoscience mumbo-jumbo. It makes for a painfully dry read… and I have a masters degree… I’m well acquainted with dull and dry, but this takes the cake.
Furthermore, the characters are simply awful. There’s Prof. Lidenbrock, a pedantic, egomaniacal academic who blathers unendingly. And there’s Axle, the main character, who is a whiny git with absolutely no spine. There are scant few other characters who are given so little focus that they seem only exist when they are deemed necessary to further elucidate on how genuinely terrible the primary two are.
Had I not been listening to this to kill drive time, I NEVER would have finished it.

- il professor Lidenbrick è insopportabile e a tratti anche irragionevole
- Hans è sicuramente affetto da mutismo selettivo
- Axel è più lunatico di me ed ha sbalzi d'umore ogni tre righe circa (dal panico all'entusiasmo e viceversa)
- a volte ci sono disquisizioni geologiche decisamente troppo dettagliate e prolisse
- tolte queste parti, lo stile è molto scorrevole
- la storia è molto avvincente e spinge a continuare la lettura
- il professor Lidenbrick è insopportabile e a tratti anche irragionevole
