I really like Sarah Morgan's books and this one was no exception. I enjoyed the romance and topsy Turvey feel of the relationships in this book.

There is a lot that unfolds in this story and it's intriguing as to what is going to happen. I was expecting the person Catherine was going to marry to be the person it was and I think it was a bit of a shock for all.

It's got beautiful bits in this book where despite their past turbulent relationship Adeline and her mum have such lovely conversations about the past and future.

I like the setting of Corfu and the growing relationship between Adeline and her sister. Really heartwarming book with some powerful past difficulties.

I received this arc in exchange for an honest review. 🤍

i think it’s safe to say that sarah morgan never disappoints and this is her best novel yet. this follows catherine, adeline, and cassie as they head to corfu for catherine’s fourth wedding.

i love sarah morgan books as they always encapsulate the complexity of the female characters so well. i also adore how her stories tend to follow three main characters with intertwined yet individual stories.

this was such a good book. there were many things that i didn’t see coming and parts that moved me so much. i wish i read this sooner.

I'm a big fan of Sarah Morgan's books so I lapped up the opportunity to read this one.

Plus I also enjoy stories about mothers and daughters. It was also interesting that Morgan gave Catherine the career of a successful writer. Her eldest daughter is estranged from her. Plus Adeline also doesn't talk to her younger half sister Cassie anymore. Although there were really close when they were little. Loved that the setting moved to Corfu for most of the book. A really enjoyable story.

Summer Wedding by Sarah Morgan

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and HQ and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

A family wedding

Catherine Swift is a bestselling romance author, but her personal story hasn’t been quite so successful; three failed marriages have left her relationship with her daughters strained. Engaged once again, Catherine is counting on this wedding, at her villa in Corfu, to finally bring the family together.

A summer of secrets

Adeline can’t believe her mother is getting married for a fourth time, or that she’s expected to attend. It brings back the pain of her mother’s infidelity and the baby who was the result. Not that she blames her half-sister Cassie, but then she's never tried to know her, either. Cassie, on the other hand, is thrilled by her mother’s news – she’s always admired Catherine’s resilience, and is excited to meet the mystery groom. Cassie also has a secret of her own, and a summer in Corfu will give her the time she needs to process everything.

A chance to start over again

As the guests arrive on the island, and the big day approaches, Catherine begins to reveal secrets from her past, and suddenly both Cassie and Adeline realise that they don’t know their mother at all . . .

My Opinion

I always enjoy a Sarah Morgan so when I saw that tis summer book was available I just had to give it a read. Sarah Morgan always bring family drama to a book, so of course this book is full of secrets. Catherine sends out wedding invites to her daughters; Adeline and Cassie but leave out a key piece of information - the name of the groom. Both sisters arrive in Corfu, unsure of what to expect.

This was an entertaining read - Morgan does not disappoint. A perfect summer read.

You might think from that bright cheerful cover and the title that you are in for a light and frothy romantic read but don’t be fooled. There is romance in the book, and it is beautifully done, but there’s so much more besides.

At first you might find, like me, that you’re not really very keen on Adeline, one of the main characters. She’s a very controlled person both in her working and personal life. She doesn’t really seem to show much emotion and dislikes both her mother, Catherine, and half-sister Cassie. When you hear how Catherine sent her away as a young girl to live with her father, you begin to understand her feelings. It does seem like Catherine has shut Cassie out and focussed all her attention on Cassie. At this point you may not like Catherine very much either and completely understand why her daughters are very concerned about her getting married for a fourth time to a mystery man. Cassie, however, is someone who is immediately likeable. You really feel for her as she tries to build bridges with her half-sister, only to so often be coldly rebuffed.

What I thought was really clever about this book is that is a story within a story within a story. In other words, there are many layers to it. Obviously Sarah Morgan has written this book but Catherine is also a best-selling romantic fiction author and Cassie is an aspiring author and we hear about their work too. And Cassie’s book mirrors another part of the story, or at least, one version of it. There is so much in the book about writing and creativity and how we can create our own versions of reality. There were plot twists in the book which reflected real life and took the characters by surprise – and may well take the reader by surprise too. Catherine comments wryly at one point, “Real life wasn’t like fiction. You never could predict how people were going to react. If this was a scene in her book, she would have deleted it.”.

Sarah Morgan writes so brilliantly about relationships particularly within families and this is evident throughout this books. Cassie and Adeline had quite fixed ideas about their mother and why she was the way she was. I thought it was so interesting that they begin to bond with each other because of a common concern about their mother’s forthcoming marriage, albeit for different reasons. The darker side of relationships is explored too but I don’t want to say anything about that for fear of giving spoilers. Sarah Morgan writes so insightfully about the ups and downs of family life and I so enjoyed following this family and finding out if Catherine’s wedding was going to finally heal the rifts and bring the family together.

I was lucky enough to be reading this over a few days where the sun was shining and it was warm enough to be sitting outside with my book. This really brought the Corfu settings to life and I could imagine the sparkling waters and beautiful views from Catherine’s villa. This is definitely a book to have on your summer reading list to whisk you away to warmer climes. Sarah Morgan has written another winner here in Summer Wedding, a warm, wise and uplifting book. I predict that, like her character Catherine, she’ll be on the best-seller lists for many years to come. Summer Wedding is Sarah Morgan at her best

Family drama. Second Chance Romance. Friends to Lovers. Summer Romance.

I think what I love most about Morgan's romances is that there are usually multiple romances focusing with different tropes. And unlike some I have read where one or two can feel unfinished or the flow doesn't sit right. Morgan has a way of intertwining them all seamlessly as well as devoting enough time to each Romance.

I think my favourite was Cassie, she felt very much like the heart of the book and seemed to anchor the characters. And her Romance was also one of my favourite tropes! I'll let you read to find out! Though Adalines growth and arc was so fun to read.

Though I did figure out the twist quite a bit before it was revealed, it still hit hard and it gave that heavy realism to the story that some romances can lack.

Families can make mistakes but family is family, whether that is your blood family or your chosen.

Summer Wedding is not your typical Sarah Morgan romantic escapism. Set in Corfu, Catherine is a successful author who is stuck in a rut. Her 2 daughters used to be close but for reasons I can’t mention (spoilers!) have drifted apart. Adeline is a successful doctor who also writes agony Aunt style columns and Cassie is an aspiring author who is writing about her parents romance. When Catherine announces she’s getting married again, Adeline doesn’t want to go but Cassie wants to revel in the romance of it. But all is not as it seems and it takes a lot of heart to hearts and explaining for the truth to be uncovered. Can they repair their relationships before the secrets destroy them?

All in all a good book, great characters and a bit more depth to the story than your typical rom com. I just don’t get on as well with books that have multiple POVs from different characters and I wasn’t mentally prepared for anything other than pure escapist romance! Worth a read though, as all Sarah’s books are.

The book was provided to me for free by NetGalley in return for an honest review.
