I've loved a lot of the comedy by Sarah so it was good to get the back story for her life and what has made her so funny. Anyone who is remotely interested in her work should read this book.
Favorite quotes:
1. "The thing about depression is that if you're not the one who's actually suffering from it, there's little you can do to be proactive. if someone in your family is depressed, all you can really do is send them to the shrink, get them their meds, be gentle, and wait."
2. "Summer camp: the second worst amp for Jews."

Over the years, I've come to appreciate Sarah Silverman more and more. After listening to the audio version of her book, I have deduced that she is actually, in fact, quite brilliant! I'm somewhat surprised that her brilliance is, to a certain degree, kept on the downlow... it's a secret that the rest of society needs to be let in on!
I will keep an eye (ear) out for more from her--I realize writing books is not her first calling in life, but she's got it down! I want more!!!

I have always liked her comedy but have to admit that some parts of the book I skimmed through. Good read though overall.
I listened to this as an audiobook. This book is mostly just a stream of thoughts and stories. There is no clear narrative and I doubt it would have been as amusing in text.
Some thoughts I had while listening to this.
•I don't think 2010 is that long ago, but listening to this book made me very aware that it was a very different time. I wonder if Sarah still uses the R word all the time?
• I always assumed that if you were writing a biography or a memoir, you were at least a little introspective. How can you look back on your life and recount it without a little growth? I am now aware that this was a horrible misconception on my part.
• I thought I had a moderate appreciation of cringe humor, but now realize it has to be cringe AND funny, not just cringe.
• You can have self loathing and be a narcissist.
• Sometimes a biography or memoir will take you from "Kind of liking" a person to having strong feelings of "nope."
•If you are trying to get through an audio book, looking at how much time you have left, thinking I can just power through, wondering what you paid for a book, just do yourself a favor and DNF it. Life is short.

Maybe 3.5...I liked it more than Chelsea Handler's books, as it was better written and SS is definitely a more interesting and sympathetic person than CH.

Oh Sarah Silverman. Even though shes very disarming and witty I feel justified giving this two stars because of all the derogatory words and bad takes she managed to fit in. I know being inflammatory to make a point (and she talks about it in the book) is her thing but yikes.
