Beastly Bones

Excellent second installment to the series; I like the introduction of a villain to take us into the next book but mostly, I just adore Rook and Jackaby. Best partnership ever! Also, dragons so no suffering of second book syndrome here in my opinion.

Tried to read this book about two years ago and was kind of bored with it but once I picked it up again, I was in love! A little slow at some parts but I love the characters and the plot! I’m excited to read the next one very soon!

4.5 stars.

These characters are so fun to read about. I love how they work together and bring new things to the table.
Looks like we've found a longer term villain, so I'm excited to see where this will go!

I've found very little about private detective R. F. Jackaby to be standard in the time I've known him. Working as his assistant tends to call for a somewhat flexible relationship with reality . . .

In 1892, New Fiddleham, New England, things are never quite what they seem, especially when Abigail Rook and her eccentric employer, R. F. Jackaby, are called upon to investigate the supernatural.

Why did I wait so long to continue with this series? I forgot how much I enjoyed Jackaby. This time around Jackaby and Abigail deal with some mysterious deaths and some mysterious bones that have been unearthed out in the country. I still love Jackaby and the book made me laugh quite a few times. Jackaby in personality is sort of like Sherlock, but there is some Dirk Gently thrown in there as well.

When I read the first book I thought of a Sherlock and Doctor Who mashup, but I think Dirk Gently is a better example. There are some seriously crazy and off the wall things that happen in these books. Not Dirk Gently crazy, but still there is that element there. In fact the whole opening part of this book reminded me a lot of something from the first season of Dirk Gently, but that's all I'm going to say. I don't want to spoil anything.

Overall is a fun book and a fun series so far. It is a rather short book at 296 pages but I think it's just the right length for the story, and the perfect length for me to continue onto the next book in the series right away, without feeling like I need a break from the characters first.

Definitely pick this up if you're a fan of Sherlock Holmes or bizarre sci-fi. Jackaby is his usual bumbling self, and poor Abigail needs to make sure that he doesn't alienate too many folks in his pursuit of the bizarre. Add to that some very bones, and Abigail Rook has got herself quite the adventure. Tons of fun, a few familiar faces from [b:Jackaby|20312462|Jackaby (Jackaby, #1)|William Ritter|https://d.gr-assets.com/books/1410170969s/20312462.jpg|28147221] pop up, and all in all it's a great read.

This was just gold. I was feeling like reading a sherlock book or binge watching the entire tv series again but this helped alot. Jackaby is forever never not hilarious with his big words and oblivious nature towards the common society

Felt definitely slower than the first book. All the bickering about the bones. Also the end felt a bit middle-book-like...
Still a fun and easy read but yeah, didn't feel as drawn to it as to the first one.
