These books just keep getting better! :D I could see the end coming, sort of, but this book was still fantastic. The plot was great, the characters are awesome, and I can't wait for the 3rd one. I did have one issue, however...there are a few moments where some *slight* innuendo was there (it wasn't with Abigail, thank goodness), and that did bug me. Also, at one point, a guy had to wear only a coat...like ONLY a coat, but thankfully it didn't last too long. Again, these are really nit-picky things, but still. We did get an adorable Charlie/Abigail scene that was beyond cute, though! :D Again, can't wait for the 3rd book.
I didn't love it as much as the first one, a little too gruesome. But still enjoyable and I will read the sequel.
I accepted the hand out of courtesy, and he escorted me down the uneven terrain toward the beastly bones.

Who doesn't get very happy when they mention the title? I'm sorry, I'm a child
Surprisingly I liked this novel better than the first and the short story, which is odd because Goodreads users seem to be going the opposite direction, the first book is very loved the sequel not so much.
I on the other hand caught myself giggling in excitement while reading it, this might be because I wasn't thrilled to read it and got something better than what I was expecting, or because I have terrible taste
the romance in it might have something to do with it

To be honest I really liked it and I didn't figure out what was happening as quickly as I did when reading the first novel which to me was great, I even had one of those moments of realization when I reached the conclusion and then it all made sense

Actually looking forward to the next one

I ENJOY ANYTHING THAT REFERENCES DINOSAURS.

I am hooked by anything that references paleontology. The fact that Abigail comes from a family with a paleontologist, and she herself loves the field only made me more excited when this book had that as its main focus.
What’s even better is what the dinosaur turned out to be! I loved the intrigue and mystery surrounding the whole case itself. Kept me guessing and even set up for the next book which I appreciated.
I am still laughing out loud at Jackaby and his antics and phrases. He has some good moments and I love his character! He’s actually funny and so often it’s not done well. I love his dynamic with Abigail and that they seem to appreciate each other (even when they are both terrible at showing it). They are a dynamic duo and Abigail can hold her own which makes her character even more lovable.
Not to mention the cute romance brewing between her and Charlie. It’s nothing in your face. It’s this nice background love story that you are cheering for, but not flipping pages just to read about them. I like where things are headed for them and that they seem to understand each other and what it would take to be together.
Overall audience notes:
- Young adult fantasy + mystery + historical
- Language: none
- Romance: a kiss
- Violence: ancient creatures eating people, murder, most violence is because of creature attacks

I just really enjoy the Jackaby books because they’re these sweet little books that really don’t ask very much of you. It’s exactly what it says on the tin: Sherlock meets Doctor Who meets Buffy the Vampire Slayer. So they’re basically perfect for getting out of a reading slump, which I’ve been in pretty bad the past two weeks.
I think I liked this one slightly less than the first mostly because it focused largely on Abigail and her interests (which mostly in this book amounts to... scenes about digging...) which I think is narratively a good place to drive the series, but personally I just don’t like her very much. She’s got a bad case of the “not like other girls” and I find it super irritating.
Still, I have the other two books in the series and even if this one was a slight miss for me, I’m excited to continue on.

Jackaby oldalán a 19. század végi New Englandben.
