Jackaby oldalán a 19. század végi New Englandben.

Love Love Love this series. The witty dialogue and mystery is perfection.
Another fun romp with Abigail & Jackaby. This one felt a little light on the quirky Jackaby moments that I adored in the first book, but it was a good follow-up overall
3.5 stars
That was a fast and fun read. I love this series because it's almost all action and very little waiting around or slow parts. The characters are super quirky and you can tell Jackaby is partly based off of Sherlock Holmes with his eccentricities and his lower empathy. I enjoyed this one even more than the first and I think because we already know the main characters and are able to jump right into the mystery. And we even are getting the start of some romance and I'm pretty excited about it. There were many unexpected twists and I love all the supernatural creatures that this author created. The writing style is nice and flows well allowing for a quick read. The audiobook is really well done.

Dear Mr. Jackaby,
Please marry me.
xoxo Gio.
Beastly bones is a good sequel.
In terms of plot Beastly bones is, in my opinion, better than Jackaby, because the mystery itself is more complex and less predictable.
I missed Jackaby's wondrous house, because the new setting wasn't as charming (of course, how could it be) but other than that I'm quite satisfied with this sequel. Jackaby himself is as glorious as always and Abigail's character development and progress is impressive. She's the best kind of female character: a sharp, witty woman who doesn't need nor want someome to keep her safe. I really like her.
However, the star of this show is and will always be for me, Jackaby himself. He's still insensitive and rude, but so sharp and clueless at the same time that it is impossible not to love him. So, while I liked Abigail and the fact that she was much more relevant plot wise, I missed him a bit. If I had to complain about something that would be it: more Jackaby is required in the next one.
Bonus points for the lack of romance. I'm not completely satisfied with the ship, even though it is kind of cute, and because of this I'm glad that it does not have much space in this story.

I enjoyed this one more than I did Jackaby - there was less set up, less world building, and a less predictable case. There were some interesting questions raised in regards to Jenny, and I can't wait to see where the third book goes with the investigation of her story.
I'm still not really a big fan of Jackaby as a character. He seems...too floaty and wishy washy, with his constant references to auras, to be taken seriously by the police and brought in as a consulting detective. In contrast, here we got to see Abigail coming into her own and using her knowledge to further the case rather than just wandering around after Jackaby taking occasional notes and generally not doing much of use.
Not gonna lie, though. Charlie remains my favourite character, and I was relieved by how big a role he played in this. And I may have squeed once or twice. On the whole, this was pretty damned enjoyable.

I'm in love with this series. The characters are splendid, the routine is a delight, and I can't wait to pick up the next one!
Aw, I just love this series. Jackaby and Abigail are such lovable characters and there's so much sass and wit and good times. And the clever story-telling continues and it's just wonderful. So if you haven't started this series yet, I encourage you to do so! It's marvelous!
