A cutesy cowboy romance borrowed from Selenka (thank you, Selenka!) and my first (ever) of these types of books? romance paperbacks? not sure what they're called but I'm sure they have a name. Four stars because I don't think I'd read further in the series (I guess I'm not really a cowboy girl!), but it was a super fun read and I'm not mad at it at all!

Ugh I REALLY tried with this one but I just couldn't do it. I got about 2/3 of the way through before calling it quits. It's one that's been sitting on my shelf for several months and figured what the hell I'll give it a shot. Turns out I should have left it on the shelf. This book is a second chance romance where the hero (Tate) and heroine (Libby) originally dated in high school but split after the hero cheated on her with another woman and got her pregnant. We meet Tate and Libby six years after he cheated and his twin girls have been born. They live in a small town in Texas but this is for some reason the first time they have reconnected since then. Even though it has been SIX years, Libby is just as heart broken and shattered by Tate's cheating as if it had just happened. I don't want to speak for anyone else's experience but I would think that if someone was cheated on, they would be heartbroken and pissed and eventually, they would try their best to move on or at the very least, have their family members tell them it may be time to get back out there or that they may need some therapy to process their heartbreak. Instead Libby's sisters don't seem to care that she has been hung up on this guy for SIX years which is probably because neither of them have healthy romantic relationships. When Libby and Tate did get together, the sparks weren't flying but instead they just talked about the past and there wasn't any real reconciliation or moving beyond the cheating to establish a healthy relationship. I have heard that this author's earlier stuff is much better than her more recent stuff so I am willing to give it a chance.

DID NOT FINISH: 37%

I’m honestly surprised I got this far. I didn’t feel anything at all between the H/h and I felt like they never really reconnected. What exactly was the catalyst to them wanted to reconcile? They were both living in the same small town for a while before anything happened again between the two. There was just so much mundane life going on and they didn’t spend much time in each other’s company. Also, what 6 and 4 year old children speak like this? No matter how smart the kid is they won’t sound like this. It kept taking me out even more than I already was. After a very strange sex scene where Tate threw his head back “as majestic and powerful as a stallion claiming a mare” I decided to move on. What a terrible image to have in that moment lol

I haven't read the other McKettricks books but I like Linda Lael Miller so I figured I would give the Texas clan a try. I actually like to give this 3.5 instead of 3, I liked the story and characters but it was a little predictable.

It has been so busy around here that I feel like I've barely had any time to read lately. I am experimenting with our laptop right now, but I keep getting kicked off. Hopefully I will be able to save this for when I am logged on again, but who knows.
I ordered this book from paperbackswap awhile ago but when I didn't get to it right away I decided to wait until it was closer to the release of the other two books in the trilogy so that I could read them all together. Less likely to forget details that way. I really like Miller's McKettrick family. Although these McKettrick's are related to the others it doesn't make any difference if you've read the other books or not. I think I have forgotten more details from the books than I remember, and I had no problem getting to know Tate and his brothers because they pretty much stand alone.
I enjoyed getting to know Libby and Tate and see her try to learn to trust him again after he had broken her heart years ago and I also liked the way Miller explored how to change one mistake might take away some of the good things that came from going down that path in life. That is a good lesson for all of us, even when things aren't perfect they may lead to something you might have missed had you not gone through the rough patch. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series and it is in the mail to me from Paperbackswap right now. I just love that site. If you are a big reader and you haven't checked it out yet I highly recommend it!

I really enjoyed Tate's story, him and Libby finding their way back to each other. I am looking forward to Garrett and Austin's stories next. I really liked the interaction between Tate and his twin daughters Ava and Audrey. Miller has always had strong, lovable men as her leads, but the way she has them interact with their daughters make them all the more lovable. A lot of it did seem like a rehash of the Creeds, just set in Texas instead of Montana. Even with that being the case, it was still a great read. Definitely worth the read.

This was a pretty good romance, especially coming from Linda Lael Miller as she's hit or miss sometimes. Its the first in a series about the McKettrick's in Texas, but the books could be read in any order with ease.

Back when they were in college, Tate McKettrick hurt Libby real bad. The result of that hurt gave him two beautiful twin daughters, but a loveless marriage that soon saw him divorced. Now back in his hometown, he still pines for Libby but she's not sure she can ever trust him again after his betrayal. But she wants to, badly. There is a connection between the two and even the distraction of her crazy mother can't keep Tate from her thoughts for long. Will Libby let herself love again, or will Tate just break her heart one more time?

Tate was a good character. He was believable and had flaws, unlike a lot of Miller's characters. He made mistakes and tried to rectify them which makes him admirable to me. Libby was ok too. She was very indecisive and a lot of her motivations weren't really explained, but all in all, I still thought she made a good pair with Tate. The rest of the characters were also alright. Although sadly I found Tate's daughters kind of annoying. I did like the addition of all the dogs, they didn't play huge roles but they were important all the same.

This plot was pretty easy going, but it made it more like real life. There was no high adventure, just mishaps and tragedy that could happen to anyone. And I like believable stories. Like always Miller's writing style is smooth and quick to read. She's a romance writer though and this book contains a lot of sex scenes. If that's not your thing then stay clear as I'd estimate there's a scene every fifty pages in this one.

As said before this was my favorite out of the McKettrick's of Texas series. Its not the best writing out there, but for a romance, it'll do.

Review by M. Reynard 2011

By far the least interesting LLM novel I have read so far. I am not finished, but really want to be done with this one. No character development' not much plot. Just seemed as though a book was due and she just threw one together.

Disappointing.

Nothing in this book worked for me. There were myriad plot lines going, but none of them really developed into anything very suspenseful, poignant, or even satisfying. The characters were never convincingly developed (the children were particularly lacking), and I didn't warm to either Tate or Libby, but especially Libby. She was in turns: a competent business owner, an adoring aunt, a spineless daughter, a giggling school-girl, and, out of nowhere, a passionate woman. Every time she was with Tate she either giggled, got angry for no apparent reason, cried (again for little or no reason), or decided she had to have sex with him. Tate, on the other hand, was either having his chest swell or his eyes mist in pride for his daughters, burning with lust for Libby (after ignoring her for four years), or was being completely obtuse and walking away from Libby with a pat on the shoulder and a "You need your rest" instead of actually having a conversation.

******Possible Spoilers*******

This couple NEVER HAD A COHERENT CONVERSATION the entire book. Then, abruptly (with a stupid "angst moment" involving a child and a stallion to add drama) they confess undying love and the book basically ends. What?

Also, the plot line with the Marva was totally random and made very little sense. Would three grown women really let their mother, who abandoned them years before, move back into town and browbeat, guilt, and manipulate them into waiting on her hand and foot and cleaning up her messes?? The sisters act like spineless little girls around this woman who is selfish and spiteful, trying hard to appease her and keep her happy.

Tate McKettrick runs a busy life with his work on the Silver Spur Ranch, his twin daughters, a ex wife who tries to manipulate him and his daughters lives. However his attraction to Libby Remington has never changed. Libby runs a coffee shop, and helps in taking care of her mother, and would rather stay as clear from Tate as she possibly can. Tate once broke her heart, for his ex wife, and ever since Libby knows that she must be cautious where he is concerned, because she could easily fall in love with him again. But they keep running into each other and before Libby knows it, they are going on dates and hanging out with his daughters and the dogs and the passion between them is like a firestorm with no calming on the horizon. Libby knows that she needs more than sex from Tate, she needs love and commitment, and doesn't believe he won't break her heart again, but Tate is determined more now than ever to prove to her how much she matters to him.Tate is the 11th installment in the McKettrick Series written by Linda Lael Miller. I have read most of the McKettrick series and have loved each and every one of them. This is a truly emotionally driven story about two people that once were in love, and mistakes were made, and their lives have taken different direction. But somehow through a twist a fate they are brought back together, and could have a future together if they learn to trust in the love they have always had for each other. Filled with adventure, vibrant characters, and a tender romance that will have you aching to read more from this author!!! Such a fantastic read!!

My Favorite Quote
Libby blushed, but then she had to laugh "I am not offering Tate Mckettrick stand up sex in the storeroom,"

" Now that's a damn pity" Tate said, Libby whirled around, saw him standing in the doorway, arms folded, grin wicked.
