2 1/2 stars rounded up.
The storyline was an interesting concept but there were a few things that made it average at best.
1. It’s highly unrealistic. Women following another woman and peeping in windows and taking drastic measures after doing so
2. It dragged on and there was lots of repetition.
3. The detective’s former partner was odd. Was he in love with her? What was the point of that whole tangent?
4. The women’s lives were so similar I had trouble with keeping straight who was who.
5. The audiobook readers were not good. The emphasis on words and rhythm of speech was so robotic it was difficult to get into the story.

Interesting premise and easy read. I was gifted this book by a friend and finally decided to dive in. I don't usually do well with domestic suspense, but this one wasn't bad.
The chapters sometimes felt a little long for such a short book. Overall a good read and one I would recommend for fans of this genre.

.... There aren't a lot of twists and turns... and the twists and turns that do exist the reader knows what's going to happen.
Why I wouldn't pass on a book that the reader knows every page.... .....

Got this book through my Ivory Chapters subscription- so glad it found its way to me! I really appreciate how Murphy approached the sensitive but important topic of domestic violence. Leah and McKenna's experiences as survivors we're so well written as was their "mirror imaging" of one another.

5 STARS!!!! PERFECT!
Graphic: Domestic abuse, Murder
Moderate: Misogyny, Alcohol
Minor: Fatphobia, Miscarriage, Gaslighting
3.5 stars — Free uncorrected ARC from Net Galley
Leah sees McKenna at the liquor store and McKenna reminds Leah of herself before her husband, Liam, started controlling and abusing her. Leah starts following McKenna, discovers where she lives, and spies on her “perfect” life. Leah figure out that McKenna’s husband is also abusive. Leah shoots and kills him, tells McKenna “I’m just like you” and asks her for 5 minutes to get away before calling the cops. McKenna then figures out who Leah is and shoots Leah’s husband. Suspicion is turned on them and Detective Jordan knows there’s a link but can’t prove it.
Spoiler: it ends with McKenna wanting to open her own pediatrician practice with a friend from med school, needing advice, and accidentally hiring Leah and her law firm to help them.
What was the point of the side story about the detective’s partner? It didn’t add anything — it just….stopped.

There was no shocking twist, but this book really held my interest. I had to see how it would turn out.

Intriguing premise, but hard to read due to the domestic violence.
