Leah sees McKenna at the liquor store and knows right away, they are the same.
This is further confirmed when Leah sees Mckenna interacting with her husband.
She knows it’s fake, she knows the truth behind the happy marriage facade, because they are the same.

This was a gripping story. Even though there are no twists, it was interesting to see how this story played out

Once the two women had killed each other's husband's, I felt like nothing really happened and I got bored. I didn't feel much at the end of the book.
sad tense fast-paced

Second book I have read by this author. Like her writing style. Ending of book was just meh.

3.7 stars, rounded up.

I liked this. It is a modern retelling of strangers on the train. I felt the story lacked foundational support at times, but otherwise was easy to read and I became interested in seeing how everything I knew was coming would play out.

SUMMARY: Leah is a drunk (a bottle of vodka a day). Drinking is how she is coping... 10 months ago she married her long-term boyfriend Liam. 3 months into the marriage he started to show his angry side. 4 months into the marriage he sabotaged her career (she lost her job and reputation). He also became increasingly more controlling and violent.

While buying her daily booze, Leah spots a woman who reminds her of who she used to be. Pretty, thin, fit, happily buying bottles of wine for a social gathering. On a whim, Leah follows her home and watches McKenna host two friends and her husband.

Leah goes back the next day and the next, watching McKenna's life. Soon she realizes McKenna is a lot like her. Specifically, McKenna's husband is becoming abusive. It is the "early stages" that Leah remembers all too well. Then one night, Leah witnesses McKenna's husband kicking her repeatedly and she grabs the gun from her glovebox and shoots him. McKenna sees Leah, but she runs off shortly thereafter.

Police investigate. McKenna doesn't tell the truth about her abusive marriage or the crazed woman who shot her husband through the window.

A few days later McKenna spots Leah and follows her home. Soon McKenna is now the one watching Leah, and just like before, realizes Leah is being beaten. McKenna decides to "return the favor" and kills Leah's husband. The same police are called in. Leah also fails to disclose her marriage was abusive to the police.

Occasionally, the lead detective narrates for a chapter. It is interesting to watch him gather the evidence and make sense of it. Meanwhile, both women are trying to move on with their lives... Will they get caught?

Overall, a steady book and somewhat refreshing for the genre. Although I'm a little tired of alcoholic characters. I'm also tired of abusive men and gaslighting but here it wasn't used to move the plot as much as set the stage. I did feel the book lacked support and foundation with McKenna killing Leah's husband. She just goes and does it. She didn't seem to think about it nor was there talks about her feeling an overwhelming sense of debt to Leah? Just a little too superficial. This wasn't suspenseful for me at all, but I did stay interested. It was also slow and repetitive at times. There are also a lot of "convenient things" to make the plot work. I found that annoying. However, I liked this more than a lot of other books I read recently.

Thanks netgalley for my ARC.

3.5 stars

Fast paced, good story. I enjoyed this book. I found myself feeling for the two main characters. The topic of domestic abuse needs to be talked about more.

I really liked the premise of this book. Yeah the ending was a little predictable, but I thoroughly enjoyed it.

5/5….This was my shit. From now on when I say domestic thrillers is my shit. This is the book that will be shown as proof. Our 2 main characters Leah and McKenna are the best written characters I’ve read this year. Calculated, and Witty. The husbands hated. but I should have hated them. They were written just as well. Other aspect I liked was the detective. One thing I hate about other domestic thrillers is when the detective are overly cocky. Wrong. Cocky. And stupid. But this detective although he had slow moments. I really enjoyed following his mind and thought process. Nora Murphy debut. I NEED MORE.

this was a relatively good fast paced thriller. i had a good enough time reading it and was interested to see where it went. but it wasn't revolutionary for me.

both of the women were nice characters to follow. i was worried in the beginning that they would bleed into each other some since they were in similar situations. but the author did a good enough job to make their plots a bit distinct. leah's pov was a bit more captivating to me. i did like the women supporting women.
