I adored this book, it was romantic and dark and I just loved it. I was hooked and I'm so glad I received it early! Highly recommend!
1-1.5.
I just want to preface this by saying that had I not received this book in the January Owlcrate, it is highly unlikely that I would have ever read it. These kinds of romances are generally not my thing, as well, I'm not particularly familiar with/a big fan of the Phantom of the Opera, so I feel like this retelling wasn't marketed towards me anyway.
Even still, [b:Heartless|18584855|Heartless|Marissa Meyer|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1477740245s/18584855.jpg|26322524] would be a good example of a retelling of something that I wasn't into (Alice in Wonderland) however, I still enjoyed the book and I feel like Meyer did a good job telling a compelling story, even though I wasn't really into the world.
This book however, screamed of special snowflakes, characters who lacked anything but shiny outsides, and honestly, a story I simply never cared about. I can see how people would enjoy this - it has the dark romantic elements, and as far as I can tell, is reminiscent of the source material, but this was simply not for me, and failed to hold my interest at all.

Life is too short to not dnf. I stopped about 50% in. I was going to push through to see what happens but realized I had zero motivation or desire to pick it up and keep reading. Why force myself to when I could read something else? trust me I am VERY sad about this because this was one of my top anticipated reads of 2017!! but I was just generally really bored. Not enough has happened. I have no attachment to the MC. I just don't care....? some people have really enjoyed this one though so you may have better luck.

DNF’d on page 108.
The story is moving along very. very. slowly.
I feel like this is a book I’ll have to power through in one sitting, or not at all.

I stopped writing reviews July of last year but I could not let my feelings for RoseBlood slide.
Let me start by saying it’s gorgeous. The title page is beautiful, chapter headers are stunning and the text is red. The nondescript raven haired beauty on the cover is meh but the overall execution is pleasing.
That being said... Pick this up if you enjoy reading a pretentious string of adjectives on every page. Or if you really enjoy metaphors. And problematic stories involving auras that shift like mood rings, chakras, the brief mention of g*psies and their ‘superstitions' or ‘tainted blood’ and creepy obsessive instalove.
“Although now Thorn understood someone’s appearance was not the measuring stick for a soul’s predisposition toward goodness or evil, he still regretted that instinctual prejudice fueled by immaturity”
“Pretty faces were no more than masks worn to justify laziness and intellectual monotony”
WHO ARE YOU TRYING TO IMPRESS.
Also: “We’re destined to be lovers…” Barf.
I wanted to quit this book at least 3 times. It took me over 3 weeks to read.
That last chapter was one long eye roll.
I just really don’t like this book. I would give it no stars if I could and recommend it to exactly noone.

The psychic vampire reveal was lack luster and ridiculous. As was Thorns origin story. Also: “We’re destined to be lovers…” Barf.

Roseblood is the first book I've read by author A.G. Howard, though I've had her Splintered series on my TBR for way too long. I was super excited when a copy of Roseblood showed up on my doorstep one afternoon, and I absolutely couldn't wait to get started on the story. That cover, it's almost too gorgeous to resist! I'm thrilled to have finally read something by A.G. Howard.
The storyline for the book is based around The Phantom of the Opera, which I ashamedly know next to nothing about. (When I say next to nothing, I seriously mean next to nothing. Sigh.) This book definitely left me curious to know more about the original though, and one day I'll have to make sure to check it out. While the book is a modern retelling, it also has an interesting paranormal twist to it that I really didn't expect, but found rather interesting. I also liked that this was a standalone novel, and everything wrapped up rather nicely in the end.
There are a lot of fascinating characters in the story, including the two main characters, Rune and Thorne, who both have had great sadness in their pasts. I was curious to discover how the bond between them came about, and why it was already so strong when they finally meet in person. It's a pretty interesting story! There were a lot of great secondary characters in the story as well, some I wish we could have read more about, like all of Rune's friends, for instance. They were seriously the best!
Overall; Roseblood was definitely an interesting story! And now that I've finally reading something by Howard, I'm totally curious to read more! I'm hoping to start the Splintered series, hopefully soon. Check these books out for yourself!
Happy Reading!

This took a bit to get into and nothing really happened until like 200 pages in. And we don't meet Thorn until like 100 pages in. Over all I liked it but I'm kinda disappointed I want more twist and turns and dark creepiness too it. I love the ending tho. I think the ending is it's redemption as it had me guessing what was to happen too out main characters
DNF at ~ 200 pages in.
...if I'm that far in, and bored out of my mind, with no attachment to ANY of the characters, and I've been trying to finish it for over a year... time to pull the plug.

I tried a few times to read this, and it was awful. I think the furthest I got was page 70. I tried enough times to justify rating it without completing it.
