I liked this book! I had a mostly fun time despite being bored a bit, but that’s sometimes expected with stories that are closer to a comfort read than a grand and sweeping romance. In fact, if you’re looking for a positive and tame read set in the regency era then I think you’ll be pleased with the experience.

I really really enjoyed the beginning of this. I was actually just planning on reading the first chapter of this and a few other books to decide what to read but I picked this one up first and then decided I just wanted to continue on with it instead of reading any others.
But then I felt the book started to drag a bit. It was a bit long and drawn out. And the ending was...surely something. It was unhinged in a way that I didn't like or appreciate at all.
but I really loved the epilogue! it was sooooo soooo sweet

I usually don't read a lot of historical romances, so take my rating with a grain of salt. I feel like, with the set up of the characters, the plot could have been more exciting and what I thought would be a point that would come up in their relationship really wasn't.

Not a bad book overall.

An incredibly well-written, beautiful childhood friends to lovers historical romance. Alexis Hall transports you back in time...you're on the horses, you're in the carriages, you're at the fancy balls with extravagant dresses.

A love story filled with friendship, love and acceptance - everything that Viola and Gracewood deserve.

The best part is in the depth of Viola and Gracewood characters outside their physical appearance. On the surface, she's an incredibly strong trans heroine and he's a soldier with a disability but the way they stand out on their own and love and support each other was so truly wonderful to read.

The only downside was the sheer length of the book, but other than that, a very enjoyable read.
