With over 2000 reviews here on Goodreads, I'm not sure there's too much more I can add to the praise for The Lies of Locke Lamora. Except to reassure any doubters that this debut novel is worth every superlative that has been thrown at it. Stunning. Incredible. Amazing. Breathtaking. Captivating. Thrilling. It's all of those things and more.

By the 500 page mark I'd secured my copy of its sequel, Red Seas Under Red Skies and pre-ordered my copy of The Republic of Thieves (due out in about a month). Even if they were only half as good as Lies, Scott Lynch will still retain his new place in my top five favourite fantasy authors. Ever.

The best book I've read this year (so far) and one that has reignited my passion for fantasy.

Read it. Now.

Wonderful voice, great characters, intriguing world. Below are my favorite quotes from "The Lies of Locke Lamora."
P. 9- "I might just mean that though you have a very, ahhh, uncompromising view of a certain exercise of personal initiative that we prefer to frame in more artfully indeterminate terms."
P31- "Jean grinned, showing two rows of crooked brawler's teeth in a face that looked as though someone had set it on an anvil and tried to pound it into a more pleasing shape."
P. 86- "Petulance, the natural nonverbal language of the very young."
P. 146- "It smelled something like a keg of bad beer overturned in a mortician's storage room on a hot summer day"
P. 152-" 'Chains used to claim that there's no freedom quite like the freedom of being constantly underestimated,' said Locke.
P. 422-"To say that he was an intemperate, murderous lunatic would wound the feelings of most intemperate, murderous lunatics. "
