Another great read from Kathy Reichs in the Temperance Brennan series. Well, actually listen for me. I’ve listened to the entire series in audio so far and this was actually my first unabridged. Story wise I don’t think I’ve been missing anything by listening to the abridged, it actually felt like it was the relationship I had been missing out on. This story seemed to have more details about the Tempe/Ryan relationship and since I’m typically a romance reader, I loved that there was more romance in this story (Tap pants!). In Cross Bones Ms. Reichs takes us from the frozen Montreal warehouses to the streets of Israel to track down the history of a set of ancient bones that could possibly sparks an international debate on religion. While Ryan tracks down the killer, Tempe navigates ancient archeological sites for answers. I also really enjoy the narrator for this book, Michele Rawk, so I hope she continues with the series.

I've read the Tempe Brennan series from the start, and this was the first one I struggled to read. It's taken months to finish it.
I appreciate Kathy Reichs efforts to stray from the norm, but this book bordered on impossible to read.

I enjoyed this book and could not put it down. I was intrigued and just sucked in. I had been saddened by the ending and hoped everything would have been tied up completely.

It’s giving Da Vinci Code, a thrilling tale of hidden skeletons, newly discovered tombs, and a secret truth that could have global impacts on the authenticity of multiple religions. So dramatic!!

"Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which to die."

I went into this book thinking I wasn't going to like it. I thought it was going to try too hard in regards to providing insight on an area of the world & a struggle that has a painful history & present. I also felt like it was going to be predictably about the bones of Jesus.

I was wrong though! I felt that this book was a return to the quick-paced, hard-to-put-down style that the first 3 books of the Temperance Brennan series had and it handled itself well in regards to the struggles/painful history of Palestine/Israel at the time ( Note: this book was published in 2005).

This was not among my favorite Reichs novels. I felt it was repetitive, too technical, and the story wound itself in circles. There wasn't enough 'procedure' in this procedural. There was archaeological intrigue, to be sure, and Reichs did her location research. I could certainly tell that she took a trip to Israel to accurately depict the stories events. However, there was too much going on with whose bones were related to who, and where Max fit in, and the shroud bones... it was too much information that I just didn't care about.
I did like the fact that Tempe and Ryan were an item in this novel, instead of dancing around all the angst. They make a believable couple. I could have done without all the references to 'tap pants' (whatever those are).
I hate the fact that there are religious groups out there that are completely against discovering our past- and they go to such lengths to steal, destroy and rebury artifacts and bones. They would rather keep everyone ignorant instead of learning things about their ancestors. That's heading into an argument for another day- so I'll just leave that one there.
All in all, an okay novel from Reichs. I wouldn't recommend that you start with this one if you haven't read her work before- there's too much archaeology and not enough procedural in it like her other novels.

This wasn’t one of her better books. Took awhile to get into it. Hoping the next one will be better.

Out of all the books in Reich's Temperance Brennan series so far, this one felt the closest to how an episode of Bones would go. The focus was primarily on a set of bones and the murder plot, while still intertwined in the story, fell the the wayside unlike Reich's previous books where the murder was the primary focus of the protagonist a majority of each book.
