The pacing in this book was all over the place. The characters fell into insta-love and out of love so quickly it gave me whiplash. My biggest issue was the fact that every single character treats Ford like he did a terrible thing by reporting Hayden (a professor who was dating his student, Ford's ex). The report didn't even go anywhee or cost Hayden his job. So, his attempt to break up his ex and his professor failed- yet, it's brought up continually as the most unforgivable thing he could do. Not a single chararacter thinks Ford did the right thing- not even his parents. Tyler and Hayden take every opportunity to tell Coop that Ford is "manipulative" and "toxic" all because he broke up with his first boyfriend out of fear and then reported a professor for misconduct.

Honestly, the book gave me no reason to root for Ford and Coop to be together. Coop fell into insta-love with the first man he allowed to give him affection and then ended things because of the Hayden situation. God forbid his friend have to face consequences for *checks notes* Sleeping With His Student. Ford needs therapy and some supportive friends.

Sunday’s Story Spotlight: Hooking the Captain by Kimberly Knight & Rachel Lyn Adams

A high-stakes hockey romance with just the right mix of forbidden tension and heart, Hooking the Captain delivers a steamy, emotional story that keeps you turning the pages.

Alex, the team captain, has spent his career keeping things professional—until Logan, his best friend’s younger brother, joins the team. The instant attraction is undeniable, but between locker room dynamics, team politics, and past wounds, giving in to temptation could mean risking it all. The chemistry between Alex and Logan is electric, their romance is slow-burn perfection, and the hockey action adds just the right amount of adrenaline.

If you love sports romance with strong emotional depth, sizzling tension, and a touch of the forbidden, this book is a must-read! Looking forward to Book 2 in the Off the Bench Duet—because one story with these two just isn’t enough!

This was an interesting read. Easy to fly through. I feel like it could have been combined with the second book and just been one book?

I had a fun time with this, thought I think there were quite a few things that could have been added or worked through that would have strengthened the characters and the plotline, creating more tension and development. In some ways, it felt a bit fanfic-y with how short some of the scenes were and how basic the set up and character development was.
