Sunday’s Story Spotlight: Hooking the Captain by Kimberly Knight & Rachel Lyn Adams

A high-stakes hockey romance with just the right mix of forbidden tension and heart, Hooking the Captain delivers a steamy, emotional story that keeps you turning the pages.

Alex, the team captain, has spent his career keeping things professional—until Logan, his best friend’s younger brother, joins the team. The instant attraction is undeniable, but between locker room dynamics, team politics, and past wounds, giving in to temptation could mean risking it all. The chemistry between Alex and Logan is electric, their romance is slow-burn perfection, and the hockey action adds just the right amount of adrenaline.

If you love sports romance with strong emotional depth, sizzling tension, and a touch of the forbidden, this book is a must-read! Looking forward to Book 2 in the Off the Bench Duet—because one story with these two just isn’t enough!

This was an interesting read. Easy to fly through. I feel like it could have been combined with the second book and just been one book?

I had a fun time with this, thought I think there were quite a few things that could have been added or worked through that would have strengthened the characters and the plotline, creating more tension and development. In some ways, it felt a bit fanfic-y with how short some of the scenes were and how basic the set up and character development was.

The audiobook was on sale, the narrators are some of my favorites, and I am in hockey mode, so I bought the book. I was entertained. I wanted to know what happened, but...

First person narration is tricky if you don't understand enough about the characters you are writing. Coop doesn't narrate his own story like an athlete. His dialogue is awkward. People just don't think like that! As an athlete myself, I rolled my eyes at the after game activities and food that Coop ate. Just no.

I had a bit of trouble buying into Ford's behavior. He obviously had issues, but the authors just didn't convince me that he would take the actions he did. His character needed a bit more development. His personality was a bit...flat.

The story did have some steamy scenes, great narration, and an interesting idea for a romance, If you like those things along with a large helping of tropes, you will enjoy the audiobook. This book ends in a bit of cliff hanger so I am going to listen to the next one.

Ford and Coop are perfect for one another. They have an instant connection, but due to Ford's past, it is a constant lingering presence within their relationship. I admire Ford's willingness to learn, adapt, and change to atone for his past horrible actions. He has a huge heart and I love seeing characters learn from their past and become better for one another.

Overall I loved this story, it had such a great emotional arc and left me anxiously anticipating the concluding entry to their story. Cannot wait for what happens next for these two.

Coop is a professional hockey player who is gay and a virgin. He has remained in the closet as to not ruin his career. Out on the town one night, Coop meets Ford who is visiting his grandparents. They hit it off and decide to keep their relationship secret and casual. The more they get to know each other the harder it is to remain casual. Once they realize that they have someone in common, things take a not so good turn. This book does end on a cliffhanger. Waiting patiently for the concept!
