THIS IS A BOOK ABOUT CLASS

I reread this on audiobook earlier this week because I couldnt sleep and needed something to listen to. When I was a kid I used to borrow this from the library (on CD!) so often I probably single handedly damaged them. I was pretty close to writing self insert fanfiction about this book but then I discovered the TV show and to both my delight and dismay the role of super smart plucky black girl who Red kissed had been taken! Ah well.

Reading this as an adult.....this book is insane. So many bizarre adult and child interactions. The humour still makes me laugh, I love April despite her awful white feminist plans and if I were a tween reading this now I'd probably ship Red and Fletcher.

I own a physical copy of this that I will never get rid of but the audiobook holds a really special place in my heart.

This was a good book, but unlike most of Eoin Colfer's other books, it didn't involve any magic or supernatural happenings... that's probably why i didn't like it as much as artemis fowl or the supernaturalists.

A fun mid grade book, but not near as fun as the Artemis Fowl series.

Half Moon Investigations, by Eoin Colfer is about a twelve year old boy named Fletcher Moon and his adventure as a young detective, solving a case that deals with the kids in his town. Overall I quite enjoyed this story. It was a quick read for me and had several funny moments. On the other hand, it did have some very unbelievable moments that had to deal with physical injuries and just the overall stupidity of Fletcher at certain moments. Even with that said I was deducing my own culprits by the end of the book and I was wrong in my guess. This makes it even better. Nothing like being able to actually be surprised by the ending of a detective story even though the proper hunts were given.
As I mentioned before this story does include some physical maiming, which you may or may not want yourself or your young adults reading.
I gave this book four stars and would recommend this to any young adults who like Sherlock Holmes, or Dancy Drew.

A review from my old blog...

I didn't like this book as much. I liked Artemis Fowl a lot because of how Colfer wove together humans (or Mud Men :D) and the People (fairies). The extreme danger that Holly and Artemis usually find themselves in culminated usually from the conflict between the aforementioned groups.

In Half-Moon Investigations I simply see Fletcher Moon as another reincarnation of a typical pre-teen kid turned detective. I could list all of the various incarnations but there's really no point in that.

Granted, the story had all of the plot twists and turns that I have come to expect from a Colfer book but I simply wasn't as drawn into the story. Perhaps Colfer should stick with little boy criminal masterminds starting to turn good because Fletcher, as a goodie two shoes from the beginning just wasn't as convincing.

In conclusion, I strongly recommend the Artemis Fowl books and if one still wants more written by the same author than I would advise him to pick up Half-Moon Investigations.
