An interesting take on a classic fairy tale. A more balanced approach that makes the characters more realistic and more interesting makes the fairy tale more interesting. However, the approach leads to a limited story that suffers from underdevelopment.

Not what I was expecting

This was an easy to read tale. It was okay. I finished it in one night. I was excited to read a retelling of Cinderella but this lacked for me. I thought Cinderella was going to be evil but she wasn't in fact she was hardly in the book. It was nice to get a different perspective on a classic though.

Unfortunately, I agree with many of the other reviews on here. It could have been better. ~~
I am a bit biased. As a child I loved Cinderella, watched and read as many Cinderella-esque books I could get my hands on. In the second Cinderella film, we actually see Anastasia (one of the step-sisters) desiring to fall for the baker, but being told by her mother that it is wrong to marry someone who is of a lower status. She follows the suggestion of Cinderella, who noticed her desires, to follow her heart. This character growth is beautiful and important and made Anastasia one of my favorite characters in the series. ~~ So in comparison, reading this novel felt like a massive step back, although it followed in her desires to simply fall in love, she spent a lot of the novel expressing her hatred and utter dislike of Cinderella (which in the opening just makes it sound like a biased perspective of Cinderella through her eyes, which I am furthering to believe was the goal?). All this to say, it was a cute idea, but poor execution.

In this short and twisted tales of cinderella everything we know about her in past stories gets turned around.
What if cinderella was the mean one!

A great short story showing there are two sides to every story.

In this story Anna and zelly aka the two ugly sisters. There mother marrys cinderella father who becomes I'll and dies. Their mother is heartbroken. The sisters end up helping to run the house answer cinderella helps with the cleaning which is her way of coping. Telling people she is forced to do it when she isn't.

This was a really nice twist to the original cinderella story from an ugly sisters point of view.

I wasn't expecting to enjoy this book as much as I did and would definitely be interested in reading the other books in the series.

I recommend this book to anyone who lives fairytales remakes .

I got this for free and since it's free and short I'd say it's worth a read if you like simple, teen fairy-tale retellings but for me while it was fine it wasn't great. I think the idea had potential and the romance could've been cute but since it is so short it ends up just rushing past everything. I also think the way Cinderella is turned into a 'bad person' and the step-family are trying to be nice didn't work like it should've. The concept could've been explored way further, it could've been really interesting, but instead Cinderella is just a brat and the stepmother goes in between a poor widow who's sad and someone who makes her daughter feel unworthy, it would've worked better if just one angle had been picked for such a short story. The writing is fine but a little simple and sounds pretty young and the characters besides Anna are pretty forgettable. It was fine, kinda cute, had potential and for free I'd read it again but I'm not inspired or about to pick up another one in the series.

This was a sweet retelling.

An enjoyable, albeit short, read (what I would call a short story rather than a novella).

I loved the premise and liked the story for what it was. It has great potential and would have benefited from being a full length novel/ novella where the characters could have been fleshed out a little more.

An interesting plot which could have been better executed.

A fairytale retelling from another person's perspective, this novella tells Ana's story, Cinderella's step-sister.

I picked up this book because the description intrigued me. I wanted to read Ana's side of the story and while I liked what I read, I also think it could have been better.
It was short and quick, so it also felt a bit rushed. I wanted to see more of Ana and Angus's relationship and the romance between them could have been a little more fleshed out. I did not expect a whole novel, maybe 25-30 more pages would have been enough.
That being said, I liked the first person POV and I felt bad for Anna. I could relate to a few things.
The story also had a lesson, that most of us listen to only one side of the story and judge. It is essential to know the whole truth.
I'm glad that Ana got her HEA. I recommend this book for readers who want something short and interesting.
