A broken, sensitive man whose love is torn between pity for a fallen, bitter, cruel, lonely woman, and a deep admiration and love for a passionate, contradictory, defensive, intelligent girl, both of whom love him deeply and yet push him away. On the other hand, jealousy from their lovers and admirers causes the Prince to be hated, used and yet somehow appreciated. This novel and the world into which Prince Myshkin was dropped seems so deeply unkind and cruel to me, and especially the everlasting writing above his head : "The Idiot". As far as I know, the Prince is intended to be a type of Christ. I loved this book, but the Prince was so intensely tragic and my heart broke for him because I longed for his happiness or at least a bit of genuine kindness from someone he loved deeply.

Beveik visi man kėlė irzulį.

Man, what a tragic story. I was just vexed by that ending.

I finished reading it, which now feels like forever, but in reality, it's only been two weeks, and it wasn't as enjoyable as I thought it would be. I read this after reading "Crime and Punishment" and "The Brothers Karamazov," both of which were full of insightful life lessons. This book is certainly a bit drier than the others I mentioned before.

So, yeah, I gave "The Idiot" a try, and believe me, in terms of narrative, it progresses slowly without major events happening often. I mean, it's probably slow-paced like "The Brothers Karamazov," but unlike "The Brothers Karamazov," which has intense and profound scenes, "The Idiot" is just a bit challenging to get through in some parts. There are many scenes that don't significantly contribute to the plot or the story but still offer valuable insights.

There's a quote that I like from it: "Consider me a crazy person or even a schoolboy, or most likely of all, a man condemned to death, to whom it naturally seemed that all people, except himself, value their life too little, are accustomed to spending it cheaply, too lazily, and use it much too shamelessly, and are therefore unworthy of it one and all. The point is in life, in life alone, in discovering it constantly and eternally, and not at all in the discovery itself."

This book is also quite comical and somewhat funny in my opinion. The noble Epanchin family, especially how the mother of the family behaves with her daughters, made me chuckle. It's really fun to read.

I still think "The Idiot" is worth reading because that ending really left me perplexed. I definitely want to reread it in the future.

DID NOT FINISH: 58%

Dostoevsky's writing can so easily envelop a reader which is probably the reason I made it as far into the book as I did. I was not in the proper headspace to finish enjoying this masterpiece as I had when I'd first started reading it. I will be happy to revisit again another time, hopefully soon, with the correct mind frame to fully embrace the magnificence of this piece of literature.

mishkin is an awesome character he’s like alyosha but without religion, i don’t know how to feel abt the whole book tho, i didn’t like it as much as i expected to, story was slow and aside from ippolite and alyosha i didn’t care abt anything else, i still like it for the usual amazing messages dostoevsky tries to give us and his excellent writing skills.
