Well, that was a solid sequel. Characters from Mr. Mercedes — namely Bill Hodges, Holly Gibney, and Jerome Robinson — reappear but not until King takes the first third or so to set up the current predicament.

In the 1970s, the once avid fan Morris Bellamy of famed author John Rothstein has soured on this master of letters for what he perceives Rothstein to have done to his literary hero in the final installment of the Jimmy Gold trilogy— at least that’s what the world is meant to believe, that it’s only a trilogy. Skip ahead to 2014 and Bellamy has since committed many a crime and received much punishment. Now in our current timeline, a 13yo Pete Saubers, whose father was injured in the Mr. Mercedes massacre of the first novel and whose family, thus, had to relocate to Bellamy’s childhood home unbeknownst to them, of course, comes across a treasure belonging to our villain Bellamy, which the latter desperately wants back. (Please pardon all the commas in that last sentence; I think they all work as intended🙃)

Finders Keepers is much less perverse than Mr. Mercedes and contains more elements of a gritty, violent crime novel. I dug it. And no surprise, but I yet again appreciate how King has created yet another male character who unjustly holds everyone but himself, particularly women, responsible for his problems and resulting horrific actions, something I personally think he did best through Jack Torrance in The Shining. Speaking of, we don’t have any supernatural elements in this sequel just as we didn’t in the first, but that last chapter might be setting up a little something unnatural/unworldly/paranormal for the final book in this trilogy, End of Watch. Let’s go👻

Oh man, what a terrific crime suspense! Truly a page-turner. This one may be one of King's most smooth rides, because in this story there's no time to slow down. 5-star read for sure.
There's not much of our favorite characters from previous book, it's almost standalone if you drop one subchapter and epilogue.

4 1/2 stars rounded up.
The only (slight) thing I didn’t think was fantastic, was the beginning of the book seemed a bit draggy. I know it was backstory and key to the crux of the book, but I was ready for Bill and gang to join in.
I liked how Finders Keepers had direct connection with book 1 (Mr Mercedes) and the ending is a setup for the final book which I will read now.

This fell flat for me. Enjoyed the premise, loathed the execution. Bill Hodges isn’t introduced until roughly halfway. I assumed it was going to pick up where book 1 left off. I found this too drawn out and frankly, boring. I won’t read the third book of this trilogy.
