My lowest rated Stephen King book at 3.5 stars. I much prefer his horror/thriller books over this type of book. I’m hoping book 3 in this series is better. I have to read it, I already bought it.

the narrator for this book was fantastic! if I had been reading the book it might have been a little slow but it was definitely worth the listen!

Book 2 in the Bill Hodges trilogy.
King's horror is always either a big hit or a big miss with me. So far, his crime thrillers have been hits for me. I think his strength is in his "small town Joe" type of characters. He has a knack for writing people we know or people we can relate to.
He takes the standard formula for these and adds some of his personal horror twists to them. The evolving storyline of Hodges, Holly, and Jerome are decently done, but the twist I see coming with Brady is one of those King horror things.
I'm looking forward to seeing where these 4 end up in book 3.

Shit don’t mean shit. 3.5 stars but I don’t enjoy it enough to give it 4 stars. This book as well written by the King himself was full of triggers and I guess that’s what I got myself into with this trilogy. It’s not really my cup of tea but he has a following for a reason over the past several decades. The POV goes between several of the characters and I do enjoy experience what each feels and thinks. It’s not gratifying but does discuss rape, prison time and murder. All for some books and money.

So good! I think I actually liked this one even more than Mr. Mercedes. I know that putting authors in his books is sort of King’s trademark, and people make fun of him about it, but I’ve always appreciated it, and the use of the author in this book was exceptional. Highly recommend this series, so far!
(library copy)…no one writes characters like SK. Looking forward to reading the third book in the series.
