Minecraft: The Island by Max Brooks perfectly captures the experience of being a total beginner in the Minecraft world.
Some spoilers ahead:
I could completely relate to the main character’s struggles, as they reminded me of my own first time playing—full of confusion and survival challenges. The MC’s bond with the animals is especially touching, adding a heartwarming layer to the adventure. I also loved the small, inspirational quotes sprinkled throughout the book. They really made me pause and reflect. What kept me hooked was the constant anticipation, wondering how the MC would discover and master the next part of the world. An their last big master plan? I LOVED it!
It’s a fun, immersive read for both Minecraft fans and anyone who loves a good survival story!
And never forget the Way of the Cube: Plan, Prepare, Prioritize, Practice, Patience and Persevere.

Narrated by Jack Black. Written by the same author as World War Z. Extremely existential. Close to flawless. No notes.

Wow, this is so good. I was giggling through the first few chapters as the main character got introduced to the world of Minecraft. This is really well told and a great way to get your computer lovers to take a reading break.
Listened to the audiobook for this one with my kids, Jack Black was the perfect narrator for it! It was very cute and simple. I recommend this to anyone who is just starting to play Minecraft and even if you’re not new to the world of Minecraft, Jack makes it worth the listen ;)
I enjoyed Valente’s Minecraft: the End way more and if you’re thinking about reading a novelization minecraft, don’t pick this one up.
While I find this book entertaining, and Jack Black's narration great, I just could not get into it right now. I probably would have if I read more than a chapter at the time, but that just didn't fit for me atm.
The music and background sounds were also slightly too loud.
